I think they were mocked. Tom Petty said he didn't take them seriously and that that was a mistake on his part.

Sunday I read two things from bloggers. One just said "Stevie Nicks and her sidekick" and the other was rejoicing in Christine's return and enumerating Stevie and Christine's long line of hits and noted that Lindsey only had Big Love, Tusk and GYOW, that's all because he wasn't a very good writer. The blogger didn't say whether he had anything else to recommend him aside from those awful writing skills, but I got the impression that he probably didn't.
