I keep reading how this is a band that has never given a damn about the fans, even before the fan club nonsense.
Can anybody speak in the band's defense? I'm having trouble thinking of things, but I didn't become a fan until after the Mirage days. Maybe somebody with a longer history can think of something? Many of the things I'm coming up with are pretty minor. Stevie wrote letters to the troops in 1991 and 2003. Stevie and Lindsey interact with the fans when they're onstage. Silver Springs was finally re-released on the boxed set (though this decision might have come more from Mick's moneyhunger than caring for the fans). Songs like The Farmer's Daughter & Beautiful Child have been included in recent sets. The songwriting has not given in to pressures of commercialism. Landslide is often dedicated to individual fans. Please add to this if you can. I'm hoping the rest of you can do better! (I'm beginning to feel cynical towards the band's decisions due to recent events, and it appears I'm not the only one.) Notice, I'm asking about what has been done FOR THE FANS, so I'm not including acts of altruism like the heart benefits & charities that do not necessarily have a direct link to the fan base. (I included the letters to the military because supposedly Stevie was writing in response to fans in the military who had written to her.) - Jake
