Smile Fleetwood Mac 2003 tour in Australia...

So there may be hope for the fans over seas after all if this report is true:

"Summer of stars to hit Oz

DAVID Bowie is the latest rock superstar to line up for a blockbuster summer of concerts in Melbourne that so far includes the Eagles, FLEETWOOD MAC and Madonna.

Bowie, 56, yesterday confirmed his Reality world tour will visit Australia early next year.

Details of the Australian tour, believed to be co-presented by promoter Paul Dainty and US media giant Clear Channel, will be announced soon.

Bowie's decision caps off a summer superstar calendar which could also include Metallica, Foofighters, Cher, Steely Dan and Madonna.
But there's a hitch – the cheapest seats could be as high as $200.

Melbourne's new drawing power almost saw rap superstar Eminem agree to a one-off show last month.

"I did everything possible to get Eminem back to Melbourne, but to no avail," promoter Michael Gudinksi said yesterday.

"He wasn't offered a blank cheque, but I certainly went higher than any fee I've ever paid an artist before."

Arranging a one-off show in winter soured the Eminem deal, but it is believed Mr Gudinski was extremely close to nailing a late May date.

In line with US trends, promoters said ticket prices for superstar acts will be more expensive next year. A leading concert promoter told the Herald Sun the cheapest seats at Rod Laver Arena could be $200.

"It will be interesting," the promoter said. "The US recession has forced a lot of acts to go offshore to keep up the length of their touring cycles.

"But it all comes at a cost to get these major productions down here and that will be reflected in ticket prices."

Another respected promoter said: "The feedback I'm getting is people would rather see the acts play the right venues at a higher ticket price than big venues at lower ticket price."

Mr Gudinski blamed rising ticket prices on Clear Channel.

"American ticket prices have doubled since the Clear Channel invasion of the last three or four years," he said.

Promoters say fans can expect tours by Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Metallica and Foo Fighters. Steely Dan and Cher are strong possibilities.

Pop stars Craig David and Christina Aguilera are rumored to tour later this year.

Madonna told Today show co-host Richard Wilkins she will tour in March. Mr Gudinski is unaware of those plans.

U2, whose 2001 Elevation tour sidestepped Australia, is said to want to rectify things on its next world tour.

Paul McCartney is to perform in Japan this year, but promoters doubt he will come here after his planned exclusive shows here last year were not an immediate sell-out."
