I know! I miss their wild abandon!

Am always surprised when people like the Red Rocks video so much. I personally just don't like it and never have.... I hate that she was so messed up and that she re-shot all of her close ups later in a studio. That to me is NOT a live performance... Whereas the Bella Donna concert was sooo fresh and exciting (there are some studio overdubs on the vocals but not on any of the video)... and she's much, much, much more coherent on the BD video. If I had one video to give someone who'd never seen Stevie live to show them why she's so great live, it would DEFINITELY be the BD video and not the RR video... That one just makes me cringe. YMMV.

Stevie's voice on RR is going to put off a lot of non-fans. But I think it's fine on INTK and in other songs like B&TB & HAEWAFY (I'm not a big fan of either song, but she nails both). RR might be a less technically clean concert (to the say the least) than WWD, but it has some very exciting parts. And (as much as everyone makes fun of the dance sequence with Brad) I really like SB at the RR show.

The stand-out moment on WWD is G&B. Obviously nothing in 1986 (or since) was going to top that vocal & those dance moves. All the same, I've shown WWD to a few friends who are not big fans, and they all ask why she's so off-key/low on GDW compared to the Rumours album, & why she's "so sappy" on "Rhiannon". I myself have never been a big fan of "Rhiannon" on WWD, other than the piano intro - crying hurts the vocal, & Lindsey's signature guitar bit is sorely missed. Also, to me many parts of WWD seem like a copycat of Linda Ronstadt's earlier-aired concert (especially visually).

I agree that WWD is often the better concert, but I'm not ready to dismiss RR. The Tango "Shake the Cage" filmed concert, on the other hand...

I really love that performance of I Need To Know, it's always a fun few minutes whenever it comes on shuffle. Personally, I think the Bella Donna tour was Stevie's best tour, I'm not a huge fan of Red Rocks at all, it just feels all so... tragic. The WWD performance of Rhiannon is, in my eyes, the last really fantastic version of the song, as well.

I have always felt that the HBO special "I Need To Know" was the best version because she sang it in a great, straight ahead rock voice that suited the song perfectly. In comparison, her voice is too nasal on the Red Rocks version, although I do like the "I think you should go!" interjections on the chorus.

One thing that always bugged me about her rendition of this song was the way she changed the opening lyrics to "Talk on the town says I might go solo..." (first person). The rest of the song doesn't make sense since she left they lyrics in second person. Now we know how Stevie loves to flip flop first, second and third person in her lyrics, but that doesn't work on someone else's song with a pretty straight-forward lyric line.

In any event, it's still a good song. I wish she would have included it on the Enchanted box set...it's odd that such a staple of her live shows has never gotten an official release (aside from video performances).

There are some incredible versions of this song out there - that HBO special being one of them. There are also some not so good versions.

I'm really not sure what you mean by this. It IS a Tom Petty song and not a Tom-inspired Stevie song. Here is the original http://youtu.be/uroKI4lWuT8
I dislike the song and others from that era which have a similar vibe. Rhiannon and her atmosphere and mystery and allure are run over by a rusty Camaro with a hole in its muffler, tearing out of a trailer park headed for a monster truck rally.
