They are on a tape dated 1984.

They are from the Rock A Little sessions.

I guess you are high.

Running Through the Garden from these tapes is vastly superior to the flat, sleepwalking production/arrangement on Say You Will. There's definitely some mid-80s cheese in regard to keyboards, etc. but these are unfinished, etc. So many of her demos have an unpredictability that's more exciting than the overworked production on the retail versions suggests. I guess that's purely subjective on my part, but as more and more of these non-FM tapes surface, the evidence builds that the members of the FM really can take equal credit for the successes and failures in the studio.

RTTG is probably my favorite song on SYW - one of the only ones I still listen to regularly from that album.

I've given my opinion on the demos before - a handful of them are songs that I'd listen to as they are just for enjoyment. But with most of them, it's clear why they never ended up any albums. As for the ones that were eventually recorded, the album versions are always or nearly always superior - but it's interesting to listen to the demos to just to compare and have some glimpse into the process of turning them into the finished works.

I generally agree. However, I love the demo of Love is Like a River WAAAAAY more than the version on Street Angel. Hands down. I wish there was a good, clear version with no hiss in the background.

I do, too. The Street Angel version would be better with less backing vocals, and a little more of that 80's thump put back in.

In the end, I love them both.

Thanks so much or these. I've been desperate for an upgrade of 'Running Through the Garden', and I never really thought we'd ever get one. It's so good to hear! Especially the "'Don't trust her!" parts.

Which is exactly what we've been trying to undo after the 30+ years of Stevie's unreleased recordings circulating around in less-than-stellar condition/sound quality.

But I don't mind in the least, please do so. All I'm doing is stating future dread. Which is silly of me.

But they are not my songs at all. And I'd prefer more people hear them and enjoy them. MP3 Players and all that, yep. Go for it!
.hhmm yes I agree. The lossless versions are the best and to hear some of the 'archives' as they should sound is more than great Its fantastic. Maybe there really should be a separate lossless thread?? and thanks for download gems. It is this generosity which gives hope in the current world!

RTTG is my favorite track on SYW also.

Concerning the demos I respect your opinion. But in my opinion Stevie goes into the studio and spends thousands of dollars to destroy her songs. I almost always like the demos better than the released versions, with a few exceptions. For example, I've never liked any of the GYPSY demos but the released version is brilliant.

Exactly what I thought when I heard it! And it IS exquisite!

"If you do not run the race, how will you know? If you do not run it, then you cannot win it. EVER!"

Just when you think we've heard everything, these brand new treasures from the past are uncovered. My head explodes a little just imagining all the gems we have yet to hear still in THE VAULT.
