Default Rose Garden

Okay, I totally love this song. What version is this? I swear I have both Street Angel and Enchanted but I've never heard this one. Tell me after all these years I somehow only ever managed to listen to one and not the other.

You know, as sparkly and pretty this version is and how delicious her harmonies, there's something a lot more melancholy about the other version. I think it's the simple organ line after she sings "all these things but a small gold band on my finger". That part always tugs at my heart strings.

At work and YouTube is "Access Denied" (LOL!), but your version of "Rose Garden" is probably the Rock A Little version. Maybe? JeffD8382 enhanced the sound for it on the Rock A Little Demos, Outtakes & Alternates thread. It is from the Master Reel Compilation 01.31/1986.

If not that, there's an early demo that Javier Pacheco said is NOT Fritz.

Sorry I can't listen and help you further.

Hmmm... Well, there are several mixes of the Street Angel "Rose Garden", not just the original Glyn Johns mix from Enchanted. I think I have four more. And some are more "sparkly"!

It's definitely a different mix of the SA version. I'd love to hear the others if you have time to post them, or could direct me to a post where they are available.

I am currently re-importing ALL of my Stevie CDs into my computer, now as WAVs instead of mp3s, which I originally did in 2005. So, that is a HUGE project, but fun ~ it's Stevie! And imprioving sound fidelity!

I think I may have already imported on of the Street Angel "Rose Garden"s from the Master Reels, but there are at least 3 other mixes. I'll post when I find them all, but someone else is free to post them, too.

I think it's an okay song. Not one of her better ones, but far from her worst. It's just kinda...there.

I find Rose Garden a fun song to sing along with. And I just love the songs where Stevie sings harmony with herself. Whereas the simple arrangement in "For What It's Worth" is interesting enough to be complimentary to the song, Rose Garden could've benefitted from a few interesting subtleties in its arrangement. Otherwise I think it's a good simple song and sometimes those are the best.

Question

I can' t say it's my favorite but it is up there. I didn't care for it until I heard her sing it during the SA tour and she talked about how she had written it when she was young. And I had never paid attention to it before but the words just hit me like a ton of bricks. It's such a sad song.

Agreed!
Although she'd probably be frightened...Stevie should really consider hiring a rabid fan as a PR / Promoter person or Manager..

I love Rose Garden, definitely one of my top favorite Stevie songs. I like the Enchanted version better than the Street Angel one. There's a weird guitar in it that seems to throw it off for me on SA. (Kind of like the slide guitar at the beginning of the sogn on this verison - but it just keeps going in the most random parts of the song). Although I haven't listened to it in a long time...
This version sounds like a mix between SA/Enchanted but with a bit more of an echo and then more pronounced harmony to it.

But man, it's good, honest, lyrics and the acoustic singer-songwriter feel is just beautiful. Similar to that of After the Glitter Fades and now we can add For What Its Worth to that list as well!

Stevie's just got so many different persona's in her music, and the whole "Country Girl" thing she goes for sometimes, I just completely adore and love. They're so raw and honest.

I rarely listen to "Rose Garden", but I do like it. I much prefer the SA version to the Enchanted one.
