Smile Tango in the Night - Analyze Your Least Favorites

Moving right along to the Tango in the Night album.

Worst Lyrics -

80's production at its worst -

I like this song, but nobody else does -

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed -

Much better performed live -

Overall least favorite -

Also today on the Pre-Rumours forum, we start the Welch/Christine era albums with Future Games. I haven't had much participation on that forum so any activity we could get would be awesome.

Worst Lyrics - I'll have to think on this and get back to you. But my initial reaction was "Welcome to the Room, Sara"... but I could be responding to the band's approach to the song.

80's production at its worst - Something off in the "TitN" and "Caroline" production. Though I don't expect the sparkle of the up songs, these tracks ought to have a cool, menacing sheen (maybe a fullness that's missing... Richard X could fix them).

I like this song, but nobody else does - "Family Man" - So underrated, I think it's Lindsey's best guitar production of the 80s and would not be bested until Love Minus Zero.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - I wish this had been a double album and that all the b-sides and Joan of Arc had been put on the disc. Not sure what I'd remove.

Much better performed live - For this album? For some reason I respond stronger to The Dance version of Everywhere.

Overall least favorite -Again, my initial reaction is "Welcome to the Room, Sara" but I actually do like this song.

Worst Lyrics - Mystified's obvious, Welcome to the room Sara's a mess, and Family Man has one of the most embarrassing chorus lyrics in the history of Fleetwood Mac. So yeah, those 3.

80's production at its worst - I actually love the 80's production in this album. But it doesn't fit a song like "You and I part II", which should have sounded more 70's to me.

I like this song, but nobody else does - Welcome to the room...Sara.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - I just know that Stevie's songs are incredibly bad on this album, though she had some great demos.

Much better performed live - Everywhere from The Dance. Also, Billy's and Rick's version of Isn't it Midnight? made me feel there still was a Fleetwood Mac, even without Lindsey.

Overall least favorite - When i see you again.

Worst Lyrics - Welcome To The Room... Sara

80's production at its worst - You And I Part II

I like this song, but nobody else does - When I See You Again (yay Artemis!)

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - Juliet in place of Welcome to the Room... Sara and You And I Part I included.

Much better performed live - N/A, much prefer the studio versions

Overall least favorite - Welcome To The Room... Sara

Worst Lyrics - When I See You Again ("she stares at the stairs...there is so much to stare at these days")

80's production at its worst - I don't think there's an example of that on this album at all.

I like this song, but nobody else does - Family Man. All of LB's songs here are brilliant.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - Honestly, I wouldn't remove anything...not even When I See You Again. But I'd tack on Ricky, Down Endless Street, You and I, Pt. 1, Joan of Arc, and Book of Miracles.

Much better performed live - I prefer the Dance version of Everywhere, but that's about it.

Overall least favorite - When I See You Again, I suppose.

Worst Lyrics - Family Man

80's production at its worst - I have grown to love the '80s kitsch over the years

I like this song, but nobody else does - There really is some redeeming value to When I See You Again. It's a snapshot of Stevie's bottom of the barrel desperation.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - Add You And I Pt 1, remove Pt 2. Add Joan Of Arc, remove When I See You Again.

Much better performed live - Everywhere (I love Stevie's additional backing vocals).

Overall least favorite - You And I Pt 2

Worst Lyrics - WTTRS

80's production at its worst - Hmm, it's all technically good production, just not my cup of tea.

I like this song, but nobody else does - Family Man. A bit silly, but not as bad as I was led to believe.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - WTTRS & When I See You Again... not sure what I'd add, I'm not familiar with the demos and B-sides from this era.

Much better performed live - Everywhere & Big Love. I prefer the Dance versions of both.

Overall least favorite
- WTTRS

I think I'm just not a fan of that mid to late 80s sound of most pop music, because this is my least favorite album with Buckingham & Nicks in the lineup. Still, a good album anyways.

I like this song, but nobody else does - Welcome to the Room & Family man.. I like both, though I frequently read in the Ledge many people hate them.

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed
- Caroline & When I see you again

Much better performed live - I know Tango in the night would be, though Lindsey has never given that pleasure so far.

Overall least favorite - Caroline

Worst Lyrics - Either Welcome to the Room or Caroline

80's production at its worst - Caroline

I like this song, but nobody else does - Family Man, or When I See You Again

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - You and I part 2, to me, never felt like it should a part of this record

Much better performed live - Big love!

Overall least favorite - You and I part 2, Caroline, or Welcome to the Room

Worst Lyrics - "Family Man". "Caroline" is a close second, but I love the music too much to call it worst.

80's production at its worst - "Caroline".

I like this song, but nobody else does - "Welcome To The Room... Sara".

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - The only song I'd possibly remove would be "Family Man". Any of the b-sides would have made great replacements.

Much better performed live - "Little Lies" and "Isn't It Midnight" tie for me. But I love the studio versions too.

Overall least favorite - "Family Man". Yes, the guitar is fantastic, but beyond that it's never done much for me. If only Lindsey'd come up with something, anything, besides "... mutha... fatha..."

Worst Lyrics - WTTRS or Family Man, though I do like the latter.

80's production at its worst - I don't know.... it was all cool/cutting edge back "in the day."

I like this song, but nobody else does - Mystified

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - Replace You and I, Part II with Part I.

Much better performed live - Everywhere

Overall least favorite - WTTRS

Worst Lyrics - Welcome to the Room Sara...

80's production at its worst - Isn't it Midnight, although I love the song.

I like this song, but nobody else does - Family Man

Would have been better if these songs were added/removed - As much as I hate to say this as an adoring fan of 35 years, all of Stevie's tunes. (start from scratch though as we know there is a treasure trove of material out there).

Much better performed live - Everywhere

Overall least favorite - When I see you again. IMO, Fleetwood Mac's second worst song ever, after The Derelict.
