Dude, I've been dying to start a thread on this whole topic for a while now so thanks! Especially with all this new stuff going on, they're everywhere! I'm always trying to get the lurkers to come out and play. I mean seriously, what do you have to lose? Once again lurkers, I dare you... and I promise, we won't bite (well most of us, anyway ).

I remember I lurked for ages. Joining has been the best. So lurkers you're missing out on a boatload of fun.

Why are they lurking? What is the reasoning? When I see a stevie nicks or fleetwood mac site, I just sign up. Don't get it.

I was very shy and lurked for years because I felt my contributions would simply get lost in the very large sea that is the Ledge. The cliques intimidated me as well. But after joining and starting to become active, all of that went out the window. I really enjoyed sharing my thoughts and feelings, and eventually debating and befriending others. It's sooo much better to join and contribute to the Ledge than just watching from afar. So "come in out of the darkness" lurkers... it's a fun party here!

I suspect that a good chunk of these so-called "lurkers" are either ex-regulars, banned members or people belonging to other sites who, for whatever reason, hate to be associated with the Ledge and go on other boards to complain about it. Really... some of you haters need to get a life.

Nice to see the Ledge in "full swing" again. I was just telling my friend that it's like 1998 all over again with all the activity on the boards!

It's also quite possible that some people just have more interest in reading what people are saying that in chiming in themselves.

I lurked as well before I joined. I didn't want to waste my time joining a crappy board, so I checked out the membership.

What's the "vibe" of the board? Serious? Silly? Intellectual? Goofy? High energy? Laid back? Some or all of the above?

What's the demographic of the board? Is everyone a tween? A senior citizen? or is it a broad spectrum?

How do they treat newbies? Some communities are brutal on "newbies" who don't understand how message boards work and thus make netiquette blunders, ask "stupid" questions or questions that have been answered on the board a million times prior, etc.

How do they treat each other? Are there a lot of arguments and fights? Are there are a lot of judgmental people? Are there a lot of cliques?

If there are moderators, what are they like?

Finally, I lurked until I felt like there was a topic I wanted to reply to. I didn't want to post just for the sake of it. I think my first post was asking about Stevie's tour schedule for Trouble in Shangri-La.

Once I got up the nerve to join The Ledge, I enjoyed myself during the five years that I was a regular. I also encourage lurkers to sign up. If you don't like it, you can always go back to lurking.

I lurked around a couple months before signing up. Now I'm signed up(obviously) but I have very lurkerish behaviors. So from a lurkerish/shy/insecure ledgie point of view these were/are some of my issues:

1. You must have a real grown up email address to sign up- not just a freebie gmail or aol or something. School emails work too I guess. Not everyone's job is cool with them using their work email to sign up (not that I would ever do that or anything).

2. I think I know a lot about the Mac but you guys know much much more. I don't want to say something wrong (or god forbid post something in the wrong thread) or say something that offends yall.

3. I worry that I'm not articulating my thoughts into words accurately. Durt, Durt, Durt.

4. I'm afraid that someone will think I'm a freak if I mention that I constantly wonder what Stevie smells like and if I ever meet her I'm going to sniff her...and I don't know what I will do if she smells bad.

5. I'm a shipper. There, I confess, I AM A SHIPPER. It's not the only thing that keeps me interested in the MAC, but yes, I'm a shipper until the bitter end baby.

Okay, I'll stop there. Silly to waste a bunch of time making silly excuses.

I think it would be nice to have a ledgie sponsor like in NA or AA (not that I know anything about that either- hehe.)
