You shouldn't be obligated to attend any religeous gathering and punishing you for not doing so is crossing a line, definitely. Would he have given the same punishment to a Buddhist or Sikh student, for example? Field trips here aren't considered obligatory and anything outside of the school timetable/syllabus isn't considered their jurisdiction.

...And thus the painted mask of self denial returns to please the audience. Tonight's program shall be a brief biopic of antithetic responces to ones own heart in honour of bringing honour and restoration to a doubtlessly shattered image. Sprinkle on the flowers my good Bee and watch the crowd scratch their heads in wonderment at this oracle of spectacle...

I just wanted to say thank you to everybody for their kind words. I really feel strange that I even posted anything like that about myself. Keeping things on the inside has always been more my style. It was quite late and I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. Still, I really appreciate you guys.

My parents aren't letting me go - this is actually my first detention.
According to the 'rules' I'll get SUSPENDED if I do not attend this stupid detention. Jeez, some teachers have to know when they are crossing the f*&^%(& bloody line.
Please help, my ledgies.
Oh and Kimberly, We seem to get upset at the same time.
It certainly seems that way. Feel free to pm me anytime, babe.

I hope everything works out. That situation is asking way too much of an underaged student.

The funny thing Bee, is that the school rules state that anyone who has to go to school for a Saturday detention has done something EXTREMELY bad. Failure to attend, suspension from the college.
Forcing one to go to a religious event on a Sunday is one thing, and not listening or caring about a valid excuse is another.

Why was the school forcing you to go to a religious thing anyway? I thought Church and Schools were totally separate? (Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick here)

Hopefully, the school will listen to your parents. A few years back, my old English teacher (and I used that word loosely; worst. Teacher. Ever.) tried to give my friend a detention when he put his head on the desk (he had flu and looked like death... you could tell he was ill by looking at him) his mum kicked off, and the teacher cancelled a detention and sent a letter praising my friend to the heavens and back

Most private schools in Australia are religious (predominantly Christian). We had an anniversary.

Same with most of the USA, really. I went to a Pentecostal/Southern Baptist high school myself. We had Bible class daily, 2 hours chapel services every Friday (where we were screamed at, threatened, and guilted by a new traveling preacher every week), and the word of God even found it's way into our algebra books. So I know exactly the shoes you're in!

Really? Wow, I can't picture that at all. I mean, at Primary School we went to Church three times a year; Winter, Easter and for Leavers, but;

A) It was during normal school time
B) If you objected, like religiously, you weren't forced to go.

But Secondary school onwards, it's been mostly religious free. Apart from my cousins, who went to a Catholic school, I've never heard of anything like that happen in England; whether it be in public or private schools. So it's totally alien for me

Here it is not that bad, and I quite like my school. Religious Education at my school is quite good really though - one term we discussed the ambiguity of God and flaws in the church.

I went to a Catholic school and had to lie about my mum's religion to get in I don't think getting out of Mass on religious grounds would have gone down very well at all!

I hated religious studies and the only way my year got such good grades in our exam was because the invigilator gave out the wrong paper so we saw the question. We were supposed to know 8 parables by heart. None of us knew any so when we found out, we only had to learn the one

At one time, I had gone to Hebrew school on the weekends (I went to regular public school in general) to learn about my religion. While different things about it bugged me, such as the fact that everyone was much more religious than me and made me feel bad, but the fact that, since I wasn't having a Bat Mitzvah and didn't need lessons for it, took me out so I could have the Hebrew alphabet crammed down my throat. It drove me crazy and I left after a year
