I love, love, love, love this song. It's on one of her greatest hits, and I remember listening this song over and over again. She is a great writer! The funny thing is I was just thinking about Carly Simon last night. I think her work rivals Stevie's. Stevie is a little more rock, but Carly's songwriting is just stellar and her voice is great.

Glad we are in agreement! She will always be one of those writers (for me) who always seems to leave me looking for more and reaching for mountains I couldn't possibly climb alone.

Carly Simon is in a different league. Not only is she more prolific than Stevie, her writing is much more articulate, direct and cohesive. Her vocabulary is expansive...and she doesn't rely on certain words, such as "dreams."

One of my favorite songs ever is 'You're So Vain." It has really great lyrics. It's a sly "f*ck you" song.

I agree--totally different singer/songwriters. One of my favorite all times songs is "Haven't Got Time For The Pain." When she adds, "I haven't the need for the pain . . . wow.

Totally agree... Anyone who works 'gavotte' into a song lyric is a genius!

Carly Simon's cool (remember when they used "Anticipation" for the ketchup jingle?). But I really prefer Carole King, whose "So Far Away" I could sing all day.

We Have No Secrets and Legend In Your Own Time are two of my favorites. I also like Jessie and All I Want is You.

About Stevie, she is not as sophisticated as Carly when it comes to songwriting, but I think her songs are more individualistic. She sorta calls to outsiders and people who have unique identities and people who are in pain. Stevie has more atmosphere than Carly. Carly clearly can write better songs about things that don't have to do with her. I think Stevie shines when it comes to atmospheric and feeling. They are two different things. I do think Carly gets shortchanged and so does Carole King, but I don't really think they give a damm. Bonnie Raitt and Tina Turner are totally overrated when it comes to artistry.
