Obviously, I still need to learn to multi-quite

True enough. I just would hate for someone to listen UTS and then not try anything else. But yeah, since it's already in MacShadow's possession, it does makes sense to start with the friendly songs
On that note, I always liked Flying Down Juniper a lot. That and SGTCYM are the ones I like best - album version. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority, though, with Flying Down Jupiter Still, it's got a neat riff IMO, and it's a favorite of mine.

Thoughts so far? I'm curious as UTS was my first LB solo experience (technically the Bass dvd was but he played uts songs there) which opened the door for me. The songs are waaaay better live imo.

I'm surprised noone mentioned "Shut us down", cause i'd start with this song.
Anyway, i like this album, but it took me some time to get it, and there are still some songs that i definitely don't like. GOS all the way, that's your best chance to appreciate Lindsey's solo work .

Well I listened to the album. Its okay. I started with Cast Away Dreams and put it on repeat to hear the other songs. The instrumentation is nice, but I don't care for the vocals and all that overdubbing/echo effects. I was kinda expecting a more uptempo rocking sound from Lindsey. Perhaps his other albums are more along those lines?...

Anyway, at least I can say I listened to a Lindsey solo album!

Exactly...and why I like them better live

And, yes, his other albums are a lot more along those lines. I wish you'd give OOTC a try. Go Insane is definitely uptempo - and classic Lindsey attitude.

I would agree. It's one thing to wonder what tracks to put on a mix tape, when you know them all and are trying to create an enticing combo for a friend. But when you already have the entire album and all the songs are new to you, you've got a clean slate from which to create your own preferences.

I think it's best to listen to it in the original sequence and then make decisions about where you would have put the different songs, which ones jump out at you, which one are sleepers, which ones are turn offs, etc.

Title track is one that definitely deserves a listen. In fact, the album should open with it. I am Waiting, Try For the Sun, Shut Us Down, Down on Rodeo and Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind are all MUST listens. My favorite on the album is the closer and rightfully so... Flying Down Juniper. Great stuff!

I've got all Fleetwood Mac CDs that feature Bucky (don't like FM without him) and I've got all his solo CDs.

Out of all the above, whether it be FM or solo, UTS is my least favourite - I was so glad he redeemed himself (in my opinion) so quickly with GOS. Absolutely adore OOTC, GI and L&O.

Quite harsh on Under The Skin, there! I don't believe that Lindsey has ever released a bad "album". Maybe he's tried different approaches and they havn't gelled as well as he thought, or the songs were so similar in vibe that they melded together to form a sickening mass, yet alone they stand up amongst the bed (See R.E.M.s Reveal). With UtS I believe he was trying to get back to the raw, naked sound of the guitar and "street performer" sound he has been known to advocate, yet in a time when we've grown used to his ethereal and overly produced sound it didn't quite live up to our expectations. Most artists get pidgeon holed into a sound, and when they try and break away from it it doesn't quite catch on as much. For example, Bob Dylan's Saved Album. We were used to his nasally, dive bar drunk persona. But then he comes out of seemingly nowhere (His shifts in religion are legendary, but necassarily covered in his earlier works) with this "look at me! I'm a Christian and I'm going to shove it down your throat" narration of his faith. I was actually warned off buying this album when I went to my local independent record store a while ago by an avid Dylan fan, who told me I had to be exceptionally brave to listen to it. I bought it anyway, and I can see where he was coming from. Instead of listening to a Dylan album, I felt as though I was listening to a stereotypical performance of an American Church scene (or should I say Choich?).

Not necassarily. It's a great song and way up there but not the number one best song. That spot's still taken by D.W.Suite

D.W. Suite? I love the first moment but the next two are horrific imo. I want to go... go... forEvah!

Hey wait, Murrow and Red Rover are technically solo Lindsey tunes!
