They'd cease to care that I was ever in their lives, and get on as though I had never impacted them. They care not for my tears, my hurt exaserbated by their ignorance and inability to be kind. I know not one person able or willing enough to see how I feel, wholly and truelly. My feelings are selfish, that's all they know. I'm forbidden to be hurt by any wrong doing they may commit against me, yet they pick and choose the most innocent of acts to throw at me and dramatise. This emptyness is suffocating me.
I agree. I write all the time and post some of my writings on a blog, not because I need anyone to read it, but just because I need to get it out there. Only two or three of my friends know about it, but they don't even seem to care. I've learned that people don't seem to care what I write. Even if a line or two is really "amazing" to them, they still don't "get" the whole thing or give any of it a second glance. And as for people not caring, most don't. Most people are in it for themselves and never take the time to understand you because they are too busy focusing on themselves and get pissed at you when you aren't focused on them for the slightest bit. It is pretty irksome. I once heard a quote that I felt is very true: 50% of people don't care about your problems and 50% are glad you have them. But sometimes you do stumble upon a person who does care.

Guys,
With people reading your writing - don't wait for anybody. Because, well chances are your not going to attract anyone.
I get all my friends and family involved, as well as teachers at my school. It's much easier and satisfying when you know someone is reading your work. Once people you know are reading your work - enter competitions.

How do I know?
I've had 2 pieces of my work be commended in a national writing award. I also have had 2 pieces of work published in an anthology.

Listen, Watch, DO and learn

The problem is, I am terribly possessive of my writing. Nobody really reads it because I don't really want anybody to read it. I never feel it is finished or as good as I want it, so I don't want people reading it because then I feel that is it. It is done. So yeah, I do post a blog, but it is simply for me to get some things out there and finished, but I am in no way looking for it to be discovered. Writing is therapeutic for me, I don't care to share it to people I know, because then I have to hear the critiques and slanted interpretations.

I disagree, John. YES, we all are busy, with our own lives, but that doesn't mean that we don't care. I often wish that I had more than a few minutes, to really write out a really well thought out response. But, often, I just don't have more than a few minutes. And lord knows, we live in a world of constant distraction, now. I dislike, very much so, the constant texts, and emails, and IM's, that make me feel,.....unfocused, on more important things in life.

I feel The Ledge is somewhat different. I feel people on here are more caring and interested than you would expect essential strangers to be. I was referring more to those people who I truly know and consider "friends".

I'd read anything from you, Bro!
I would really like to read some of your work though, and I might give it a bit of circulation. At least that way - people will be reading it, from another country.

So I've been having body/self esteem issues lately. I think anyone who was ever an insecure, chubby, dorky kid will always feel like they are one... and those old issues flare up from time to time. Anyway, I went to Chipotle for a late lunch today, and I totally made the younger gay boy behind the counter blush, stutter nervously, and shaky while he was preparing my food. It was like the perfect ego boost at the perfect time . Sometimes it's just nice to get a totally random affirmation that you've still got it!

I can relate to this completely. I have the same problems when it comes to confidence and self esteem. But I always feel a little better when I go into my local HMV. There's a (slightly) older guy who works behind the counter who everybody I know believes has a crush on me. He always smiles when I come to his register and he brings out things from the store room for me to have first look at when they're not even supposed to be on the shelf yet. He's just generally a really sweet man I've noticed he's a bit arsey with other customers so it makes me feel special.

Yes, same here, exactly. You know, until about 15 months ago, I was 40-50 lbs overweight, for about 10 years. No one hardly ever noticed me, or cared(about more than friendship). A year ago August, I decided it was time to do something about it. I went from 180(I'm 5'10") to 135 now. I wear 28 jeans now, and went from XL shirts, to wearing smalls! And it's the best thing I ever did. I get hit on constantly(not bragging here) by 21 year olds!(I turned 42, 3 weeks ago).

Funny story, last night, I went to see a band's reunion, that broke up 18 or so years ago. This big fat slob, pushed his way in front of me, as I was trying to talk to the guitar player, when they took a break. He said, "out of my way, I was here 20 years ago, when they played all the time". I said, "I WAS TOO!" He said, "there's no way you were here then, you're too young...what are you, 27?" I told him to "add 15 to that". Turns out, he was only a year older than I, although he looked 20 years older than me. God that felt good.

I vow to never let myself go again. I'm the best I've ever been. And getting regular booty texts, from 22yo's, is priceless!

Found out today that my dear mom has breast cancer. I don't know how advanced yet; we are meeting with the surgeon on Monday morning. Thankfully my older sister will be here (from NY) so we can figure it all out. Prayers and positive energy would be great. I am very close with my mother and heartbroken right now.

Today also marks the day my husband and I got married, 10 years ago.

Oh Jannie, I'm so sorry. Sending all the positive thoughts your way, that I can muster. I'm sure we all are. Have the best holidays that you can.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Jannie . You'll be in my thoughts, for sure. For what it's worth, they've made great progress in recent years with the treatment of breast cancer. My Grandmother is a survivor.

Anyway, congrats on the Anniversary. Life always seems to have good and bad temper one another!

I'm sorry, Janet. Many prayers and positive vibes going out to your mother.

Congrats to you and your husband on 10 years of marriage!

:[ Sending lots of positive energy your way! And like Louie said, they have made many advances over the past few years, so don't get discouraged! Cancer sucks, but this is in no way a death sentence! She will beat it! And congrats on the anniversary
