It took a bit for this song to grow on me. But now I enjoy it very much.

The video just like the whole Street Angel album was ignored by both MTV and VH1 in 1994. I don't believe the Blue Denim video aired even once (I didn't even know it existed until 5 yrs. later). Stevie and Modern really dropped the ball on promotion for SA, I only recall a smattering of promotional interview clips in various magazines at the time of it's release as well as the Letterman and Leno TV appearances. Maybe Love did received decent adult contemporary airplay during the early summer. But If it wasn't for the success of "The Dance" and then the "Enchanted" box set and tour, Street Angel would have never gone gold.

Supposedly, Stevie did a video for "Unconditional Love" in 1993 ~ the pic in Enchanted with the candle and mirrors. Supposedly.
Now, in Summer 1994, the infamous Bill Gamelson told me that Stevie definitely did do a video for "Unconditional Love" and also "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind". I tend to believe Bill, despite his history, because he knew so much inside Stevie information that no one seemed to know. At a record show in Houston in Late 1993, Bill told me that Stevie was in rehab and that's why Street Angel was pushed into 1994. I didn't believe him at the time, but in 1998, Stevie herself confirmed it when she went public with her Klonopin addiction and her detox and rehab in Late 1993. So, that's why I give credence to his claim that those two videos were filmed. Who knows? ![]() |

It does make sense that promotion for Street Angel would have involved a video for the 1st single, esp. back in 1994 when it was pretty much a given. That's why it was bewildering that a video never aired or was mentioned for Maybe Love
Looking back at the whole Street Angel fiasco, I think it was total chaos, They didn't even know what the 1st single was going to be, 1st it was Unconditional Love, then Blue Denim, and last minute it was Maybe Love... because of the 11th hour shake up of the album's line up and production changes. Also to try and make sense of it all you have to consider that during this time Stevie was slum dogging it with Chris Nicks as her creative director and Glen Parrish as her manager. No wonder Street Angel was blinded by the light of the day...It was a nightmare at the get go and total amateur hour for someone of Stevie's stature . |

Plus it didn't help things that Stevie and the original producer, Glyn Johns did NOT get along with each other at all. I don't know if he was pushed on her to produce or if she wanted him because of his work with the Eagles. Oh man, Stevie was taking alot of bad advice at the time. Didn't help that she was not thinking clearly.

At least after detox, Stevie was thinking clearly. Bringing in Thom Panunzio and Roy Bittan to re-record "Jane" and "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind", as well as remixing the whole album and adding more overdubbed instruments, enhanced the album greatly.
Those weak, limp mixes that Glyn Johns turned in in February 1993 sound like sparse demos from 1973. Stevie made the right move in trying to beef up Street Angel's sound! |

The only place I saw it besides the shack was
at the end of an Entertainment Tonight show. I guess I'm in the minority, but I think she looks really bad in that video. Her weight at the time, the hair and even the curtain clothes. Compare her looks from the Blue Denim video with The Soundstage Live In Chicago DVD. She had an amazing turn around in those fifteen years. |

This video was recorded at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee. I was at the show in the third row. She performed the song three times and took some songs out of the set that night. She had a little diva fit because someone on the camera crew was taking a long time to reload the camera.

Letterman and Leno are huge markets. I also recall quite a few magazine articles, including Details Magazine (another large market). Frankly, I think the promotion and subsequent tour were fairly normal promotion efforts for Stevie. I think simply put: the album just wasn't very good. "And not all the prayers in the world could save it".

"Travis" posted a remix version of this video, using an alternate mix of the track, a few months ago. It was excellent - better than the original! Unfortunately it seems the video was taken down. Here's the thread:

LOL - the whole reason to even get CV is for the DVD. All of Stevie's solo videos minus "If You Ever Did Believe" are on it.
