Is anyone here old enough to remember when the internet didn't exist? We had very little information about what was to come, except for little items written in magazines. The fact that Dave is utilizing today's modes of direct communication is something we should respect. This is the new form of marketing and he's doing it for the benefit of Stevie. She, herself (0r her management) would probably would never even think of interfacing with fans in this direct manner. Dave is Stevie's champion -- he respects her talent, has shown her a different way to work, and has inspired her. Really, what more can we ask for? Until I have the CD in my hands and on my stereo, I have nothing else to say about it.

Yeah, but luckily they didn't all come out at the same time and compete with each other.
But thinking of songs that came out at the same time (like Heard it Through the Grapevine), wouldn't it be great if Dave and Stevie did two different versions of the song, for their respective albums? That would keep things fresh and interesting. Michele |

Okay, so he finally answered me back to my question about if Stevie has a title for her new album yet.
DaveStewart @DaveyPants999 - a few possible ones ![]() A vague answer...but at least he answered. ![]() |

Thats funny
at this point you'd hope she would have a few possible ones. Really makes me believe that the photography and artwork have not been initiated if she hasn't settled on a title or concept. I'm really interested to see what album title she settles on. I hope its a good one! An epic title in the same vein of her earlier albums specifically Bella Donna & The Wild Heart, and something that is symbolic of where she is today. As long as Chris Nicks doesn't have any input, I'll be a happy camper!

All the time that will have passed since their initial burst of creative energy until the cd finally drops dilutes the spontaneous synergy they achieved. Having the music go through many months of mixing, post production and rethinking before it's released is exactly the same way she's worked for many years. I would have liked to have seen confidence and a little boldness in just getting the cd out as quickly as it was recorded. Elton & Leon did it. Last edited by Nikolaj; 11-30-2010 at 02:34 AM.. |

While it's very clear that Dave is her primary collaborator on this CD, everyone seems to be forgetting that he's not the only producer on-board, he just the only one using social networking tools to connect with fans, etc. Glen Ballard is the co-producer. Impressive resume of hit after hit as producer/co-writer of Morrissette's Jagged Little Pill, Dave Matthews, Aerosmith, Annie Lennox, and he was responsible for the first Wilson Phillips CD and Paula Abdul's debut, but those were two of the biggest selling CDs of the 80s with five top 10 hits to each one's credit.

I do know SN said in August interviews that they (she and Dave) were finished with recording and that she 'didn't want to' have the cd be released before Christmas- it was an option on the table that she declined. I think it's fine it comes out when she wants for it to. I just feel certain that an opportunity was missed for the songs to have an immediacy and fresh intensity that was a given at the time; due to unusually positive comments by Rolling Stone, other writers, and the thrilled music executive SN played tracks from the cd for. I'm sure it will still be a very good cd, and I think Dave Stewart may wind up as being her best producer and collaborator in a long, long time. Last edited by Nikolaj; 11-30-2010 at 02:51 AM.. I'm thinking the delay until March is so Stevie can capitalize on the "ten years since her last studio album" / "30 years since her first studio album" dealio.

Oh, that could have been spun, it's nearly 10 years, actual dates get fudged all the time. I think SN wanted to be extra cautious, take her time, and possibly get herself rejuvenated in one way or another before the cd comes out, to look and feel her best when promoting it. That's fine, too. She'll turn 63 during the tour and deserves to pace herself and be comfortable. I still think the cd could have come out this year before the tour, ya know, so people may have 'known' the songs enough for her to do a bunch of new material at concerts and have it go over really well. I give her credit for how much of 'TISL' she put into her set back '10 years ago' when people had not had time to get very familiar with the cd. She went for it, though. Admirable. So the songwriting process was easier this time around? Totally easier and way more fun. I have really never felt as in control of a situation, because Dave respects me totally as a writer and as a lyricist and as a poet. We have a song I wrote when I was 17 that is the words to an Edgar Allan Poem called “Annabel Lee.” It’s just lived in my head since I was 17. I didn’t record it about until 10 years ago. We found the demo and I’m not sure why I didn’t put it in “Trouble in Shangri-la,” but I guess things got misplaced. Dave and Glen loved it, so we recorded it. It’s all my song except they wrote this 30-second English minuet thing that goes in the middle that is very Annabel Lee-esque. It’s fantastic. That was a good song without Dave, but with Dave and my musical director and lead guitarist Waddy Wachtel, between all of them they wrote this amazingly beautiful little piece of music. It just enhanced the song. I only know four chords so I could never write that. I took a month of guitar lessons when I was 15. I play with one note. I play well enough to write, but I don’t play enough to really play |

Last night I had this dream that I heard on the radio The Ghosts Are Gone. Luckily for us, in this dream, the song was played two different times. I remember thinking I needed to memorize some of the words so I could tell them to my Ledgie peeps.
The radio DJ, which was a woman, announced after the song was played the first time, that this was a new song by Stevie Nicks that was originally scheduled to be on her new album but was removed in favor of another track. This song, she stated was from an upcoming un-named soundtrack. The second time this song came on I was able to share the soundtrack info with the two people in the room with me who were hearing it for their first time. There was already a lead single from the album that radio was playing already but I hadn't heard that yet. This song was released at the same time as the lead song. These are the lyrics I memorized: And the President says How long must we be at war? Well the ghosts are gone Yeah the ghosts are gone They've haunted me But now they're gone When I awoke and was excited to write these words so I wouldn't forget them, I was singing it to myself over and over and then I realized something. Remember when Peacekeeper was released as a single and you realized you could sing Paul Simon's Kodachrome right along with it? Well I realized I could sing REM's Losing My Religion right along to The Ghosts are Gone. It is very similar only in the part I just related to you. The verses in the song sounded very Stevie Nicks and it was a catchy rock and roll song. |
