I have to agree with you there for the most part. Although I definitely wouldn't pass up the opportunity if I had it to meet one of the various people I love at a show or wherever, it'd be a lot more interesting to somehow run into them or whatnot and talk with them that way. Even though being a huge fan, it would be a lot nicer to have an actual conversation (or try to

) instead of being all gushy and doing the typical 'i'm a huge fan I love your work' deal, it seems awkward IMO and they hear that kind of thing all the time. Honestly though depending on who it is I don't know how I'd react unless I was actually in the situation, but even then I can't see myself going OMG I LOOOOOOVE YOUUU in their face. There are so many other ways to let them know how much they mean to you without being a screaming fangirl/boy.
