I wouldn't say it's a bad lyric but I always hated the chorus to Rooms on Fire.

"Well maybe I'm just thinking that the ROOMS are all on fire, every time you walk in the ROOM". Using the word "room" twice in the same sentence always irks me.

My least favourite lyrics are in 'Blue Denim'. I think the song is Ok, but I can't handle couplets like "I saw him the other day/ Saw him again yesterday" and "I turned away so he couldn't see/ I turned away it could never be."

I like the last stanza quite a bit, but the rest is a bit too mediocre for me.

"Well you know me better than I know myself. Can you write this for me? He says no, write your songs yourself"

Speaks for itself why it's so bad, but I also just don't like the literalness of it. Stevie lyrics are supposed to be foggy, indirect, and lacking in specificity so that they can be interpreted in hundreds of different ways making them applicable to most any quandary. That Made Me Stronger as a whole is just so blunt, to the point, and lacking in mystery and thus, beauty. I like the fact Stevie was so empowered by her encounter with Tom Petty which lead her to write this song, but I just wish she could have written about it in a bit more oblique fashion.

"Every Hour Of Fear I Spend, My Body Tries To Cry" always, without fail, makes me cringe.

It does have some redeeming factors tho. "Dreams reoccur in my solitude, breaking my heart, injuring my mood. With all of the things that I thought I knew, it was you." "All those tears that we shed, don't call me when you're lonely." "Once more I tell the shadows of my soul to stay back. Everything has changed now and I don't want to go back and nothing you can say can change my mind" are among my favorites. So even tho it is a very literal song, I think the chorus is rather catchy and it does have some good lines scattered about! However, I know I am in the minority of people who enjoy this song.

And just FYI, thanks to you I went and listened to this song and have now spent the past 30 minutes listening to it on repeat! I guess I am just strange.

^^^^ We did a "reverse survivor" thing several years ago, and "That Made Me Stronger" was voted the worst Stevie song ever.

The lyrics are bad, but I think the music is ****ing terrible. Everything about that song is clunky and awkward to me. I do concede that the "dreams reoccur in my solitude" is its one saving grace.

How depressing! I would think her WORST song would have to be Cathouse Blues. And worst released, possibly Listen To The Rain.

I don't think demos were included.

There are several contenders, IMO. Listen to the Rain, Greta, Desert Angel...

You did not just include any lyrics from Storms! The only possible explanation is that you're suffering from a terrible brain fever that's influecning your judgement.

Really bad lyrics peppered throughout Street Angel - Blue Denim is always a cringer for me from start to finish, the title track with rag dolls falling down stairs, the phantom of the opera and so in in Listen to the Rain, etc..
I Miss You is one of my all-time faves but I had to work to get beyond the invisible girl being her name, plus all the you/he shifts in the chorus parts.
Whoow we were off the wall in Paper Doll is bad.

I was listening to I Miss YOu when I read your post, (and still am), and I totally noticed the chorus thing too, and I never did before haha. Her tenses are so messed up, but that makes me love her even more, hehe

Even though I love the song, I always cringe at the lyric "...but I like some kind of...Time Life edition, tradition, competition being..."

Embarrassing, in my little opinion.
