I found my taped off the tv copy of the Mirage concert today at my mums house, i honestly thought she had either thrown it out or taped over it years ago. I took it home and watched it the picture quality isn't great but watchable but the sound is still remarkably good. It was shown once in the uk (i think!) in either 88 or 89 what is really funny though is that it cuts in halfway through an episode of Eastenders and has all the commercial breaks in it, worth watching for the comedy value of the 1980s adverts on its own
A great unexpected find and i'm very happy. |

I have a couple of copies of this concert hanging around that I recorded on SuperBeta HiFi also VHS HiFi.I know I probably have about a couple dozen Tango shows that I recorded off of Showtime ever time they aired it back in 1988.

Excerpt from an article by Mushroom at Helium.com
http://www.helium.com/items/855145-f...car-boot-sales For example at this present time I'm listening to a Fleetwood Mac cassette I purchased for 10p this morning . . . Fleetwood Mac in concert as part of their Mirage Tour was recorded by Channel 5 in 1986. This video has eighty nine minutes of star play and musical genius. Even though this video was recorded over twenty years ago this classic star performance will shine on like a crazy diamond for ever. I was never a devoted fan of Fleetwood Mac,but that was because I didn't know what I was missing.Fleetwood Mac are a comically funny band who have the right blend of wacky characters carefully crafted to give maximum impact to their unique style of wizardry. Lindsey Buckingham would not look out of place playing the part of a character in The Beverly Hill Billies, was it not therefore ironic for this concert to be recorded in Los Angeles ? Mick Fleetwood, Coco belongs in a circus entertaining children as a clown. As his drums are rolling they gather pace his eyes begin to widen and by the time his solo reaches its crescendo you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that this guy needs medical help. At the end of the show this old timer gets his medication, he needs the extra air to compensate for the amount of energy he used-up during the show. |

It was filmed beautifully, I have a VHS copy that is still so clear picture-wise and the sound is superb, better than DVD copies I have seen.
There were 2 releases of the Mirage concert on VHS that I know of - the one I have comes in a 'gatefold box' (if you will), you open the box, and there's some text of the technicians names and you slide the vhs tape from inside the enclosure, rather than from the bottom of the box- it has the 'Dolby Sound' logo in the bottom right corner on the front of the box. Made by RCA Columbia Pictures Home Video and the tape itself has 'Dolby Stereo' on it. The second printing was just in a 'slipcase box', which may be the wrong term-- it was a standard box in which you slide the vhs tape out of the bottom of the box, rather than open it up to remove it. I wonder if the cheaper box on the later version means that cheaper technology was also used, either in the quality of the tape used, or the sound. I last watched it a month ago and it still looks and sounds beautiful. Not bad for something I've owned more than 20 years. PS- And yes, I still have a VHS player, it sits beneath my dvd player which gets way more use, but with my vast collection of Stevie (and others) on VHS, I wasn't about to unhook my vhs player. I never use it other than to watch old music clips or shows that I don't have on dvd, maybe once a month, if that. Last edited by Nikolaj; 08-13-2010 at 05:11 AM.. |
