Default Stevie/Mac References in Books

I want to make a list of the books we know of that have Stevie/Mac references.

Running with Scissors-Augusten Burroughs
The Perks of being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky
Wish- Melina Gerosa Bellows

Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. Do you guys know of more?

Didn't Steve Martin mention Buckinghamnicks in a book of his? Like they were performing the same venue as him or something

In Time Traveler's Wife Claire said that hubby Henry hated Fleetwood Mac and she had to listen to them when he was out.

In 'Debbie Harry sings in French' Johnny is describing vomiting on the shawls of a girl who dressed like Stevie.

So I would lie on the floor with my head next to the speaker and Natalie would stand with her finger poised over the needle. "Wait, I can't understand that - play it again," I'd say scribbling furiously to keep up. "Is she singing 'just like a wine-ringed love' or 'white-winged dove'?" Natalie would drop the needle on the record causing it to screech. "Hold on, here is comes". The verse would play and again I couldn't understand, "**** it, I'll just write something in.""

And then on the next page he says:

" Sometimes we would drag the fan upstairs. This would create a sort of Stevie-Nicks-in-a-wind-tunnel look that we especially loved. "

They also made the movie into the book and Augesten Burroughs said that the only thing he didn't like about the movie was the fact that there weren't any Stevie Nicks songs in the soundtrack.

Also, he mentions her in his book Dry.

""I never would have pegged you for a Stevie Nicks fan." I glare at him."

In Perks of Being a Wallflower i believe it's one of the songs that come on the radio while the main character is riding in the car with his friends. Along with all the other songs it's on a playlist of that "infinite" moment.

I love that book by the way

A cool, two-for-one kind of Stevie reference in 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert. Page 59, talking about one of the Italian twins she was practicing her Italian language skills with (he was practicing his English)....

"I like to try to make him laugh, but Giovanni doesn't always get my jokes. Humor is hard to catch in a second language. Especially when you're as serious a young man as Giovanni. He said to me the other night, "When you are ironic, I am always behind you. I am slower. It is like you are the lightning and I am the thunder."

And I thought, Yeah, baby! And you are the magnet and I am the steel! Bring to me your leather, take from me my lace!"

And a Mac reference in 'The Scarpetta Factor' by Patricia Cornwell. Pages 10 and 12...

"Lucy turned down the volume of the YouTube video, Mick Fleetwood's drum solo for 'World Turning', live in concert in 1987...."

"She got off the phone and turned the sound up again on YouTube, Mick Fleetwood still going at it on the drums...."

I love an unexpected Mac reference when I'm reading!

In Judy Blume's book 'Summer Sisters', there's a reference to Stevie. Here's what was said. (this scene is about a woman introducing someone she loves to the woman her mom works for.)

The Countess pats her bed and tells Gus, "Sit here and let me look at you." He sits beside her. She holds his hands and gazes into his eyes. Finally, she nods and says "Love's a hard game to play,my darlings. Play it well."

"Stevie Nicks" Vix says. "Who?" the Countess asks. "It's a title of a song I used to like.".
"Stevie knew what he was talking about." (said the Countess)
Vix doesn't tell the Countess Stevie is a She.'

I have numerous books from when I was younger (teen romance fiction type books) that had references to Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac. It was usually just something like 'She put on a Fleetwood Mac album." or "I was listening to Stevie Nicks on my headphones".

Like Chelluversu said about Perks of Being a Wallflower, it's when the main character is riding in the car and Landslide is playing and he describes it as an "infinite moment." It's been years since I read it but I remember loving it.

And in Wish, each chapter starts out with the main character's favorite things in pop culture for whatever year it was, and in 81 her favorite song was Leather and Lace.

well i returned a book to the library last week and i forget the title, but it was about this 17 yr old gay boy, who has a hippie mom and there was constant playing of Fleetwood Mc in his house. " 'You Make Loving Fun' and 'Everywhere' blasted at insane levels."

Well I had just spent the last 45 min copying out excerpts from this book when my internet booted me off and I lost it and I'm pretty pissed off now, so... short version.

Found this book http://www.amazon.com/My-Diva-Women-.../dp/0299231208 on ohio link while doing a stevie search at my school library. Has an entire chapter dedicated to Stevie and coincidentally the editor is also the one who wrote the chapter on Stevie. I found it very interesting because even though he was speaking from a gay male perspective, and to primarily a gay male audience, I am assuming, I found that the reasons people are drawn to Stevie seem to be pretty universal. I really liked it and I recommend you guys check it out.

In Jo Anne Beard's book of essays "The Boys of Summer" she writes about driving along with her cousin listening to Fleetwood Mac. I don't remember the lines exactly but here's the gist:

"We sing along to a tune about a woman who rings like a bell through the night. Neither of us knows what that means, but we are both in favor of it. We want to ring like bells..."

And later in the paragraph "Over My Head" is quoted rather extensively, if I remember correctly. (It has been years since I read the book.)

And in the early eighties literary-bestseller-turned-movie "Less Than Zero" by Bret Easton Ellis, the writer mentions Fleetwood Mac twice. Something like:

"Driving around in the desert in the middle of the night, Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles on, loud. Hot wind blowing..."

And "Driving through the desert listening to the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac. hot wind blowing through my hair..."

Or something like that. I read the book half my life ago. And the only reason I remember the lines is because I thought it was funny how he said 'Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles' and later 'the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac.' As if they were interchangeable.

I had no idea that movie was based off of a book. I love it. I'll definitely have to check it out.
