Default Corey Haim -- Dead...Drug OD, Sources Say

Corey Haim -- Drug OD, Sources Say
Posted Mar 10th 2010 9:10AM by TMZ Staff

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Corey Haim did indeed OD on drugs, and his mom is the one who discovered him in the apartment and called 911

Although cause of death is premature, so far law enforcement is telling us it was "possibly accidental."

We're told LAPD has opened a death investigation.

Singer Rick James died in the same apartment complex in 2004.

Actor Corey Haim died this morning of an apparent overdose -- possibly accidental -- according to LAPD. He was 38.

Police tell us they were called to St. Joseph's hospital in Burbank, CA shortly before 4AM PT to investigate.

Haim shot to fame in the 80s -- when he co-starred in a number of films, including "The Lost Boys," with Corey Feldman.

Haim reportedly suffered a drug-induced stroke in 2001 and was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center.

Haim also reportedly was in and out of rehab 15 times, but cleaned up in 2004 after moving to Toronto.

holy ****!!!~ i am heartbroken over this~ i can't say i didn't see it coming tho, especially since the reality show he was on w/ feldman ended unexpectedly when haim, obviously high, hit a house~

did you guys ever see his E hollywood true story?, there was a part in there where he was so high, he had no idea what he was saying~ it was so hard to watch~ i'm sure w/ his death, they will be showing it & if you haven't seen it, you should~ wowzer~

one of my sons absolute favorite movies is 'licensed to drive', it was one of his most wanted gifts for his birthday a few years back~

i am gonna have to tell him, he's going to be heartbroken~

he was my fav of the 2 corey's~ this is just so sad, but as i said, doesn't surprise me at all~

RIP corey~

Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me either, but it' s sad that this happened. Being in middle school/high school in the 80s, I watched a lot of his movies. Of course, a lot of my friends had crushes on him. (I, however, already had a crush on Lindsey! (lol) I remember the first time I watched The Lost Boys (at a slumber party in Dec 1987). It was a great movie that I still watch to this day. It seemed like Corey always had a hard time after he got older. Still, I hate that it had to come to this. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

i just bought this on blu ray, minutes after i heard of his passing~ before all the sharks start listing it at ungodly prices~ it was always a fav of mine, i was a teen in the 80's~ & as i said of the 2 corey's, he was the cute one~ feldman may have been a good child actor, but i never thought he was attractive at all~

dude, I hate engaging in threads about people who have died, but this one really saddens me. even though his movies were a little before my time, I still feel like a part of my childhood is connected to those movies and therefore, to him. not surprised, but saddened all the same.

I'm in shock! It didn't surprise me that much, but I didn't know about him since his E! True H.S, few years ago, when apparentely he was in rehab. Though it wasn't that convincent.. It was the same with Dana Plato or River Phoenix, they never rehab completely.

But he was a great actor at the beginning. That ETHS said he could have been the new Jack Lemmon. But drugs screwed him. My fave movie with him was License to drive. This is sad.

I'm watching that now. I'm disheartened to hear not one word out of this actor's mouth about the art of acting in any of its facets: wanting to play great roles, wanting to hone his craft, wanting to work with his actor heroes (if he had any), & so forth.

Everything he says & everything his family & friends say about him all boils down to fun & games, girls, wealth, & fame. From his perspective, his life appears to have been nothing but a big party.

Haim was in movies professionally for almost thirty years. Imagine Anthony Hopkins, for example, having nothing to say about his chosen profession except partying, fame, & money.

It's what separates the actors from the celebrities.

First, the Twitterverse came out in full force. Then Corey Feldman followed suit.

It didn’t take long for the rest of Hollywood to follow, with Corey Haim’s former costars adding their own statements of remembrance to the tributes that have already poured in.

Vivica A. Fox, Nicole Eggert and Todd Bridges are among the latest celebs to react to Haim’s death. Here’s what they had to say:

• Vivica A. Fox, Shark City costar: “We will miss this wonderfully talented young man, it was a pleasure to have worked with him, may God bless his family at this most difficult time.”

• Nicole Eggert, Blown Away costar and ex-girlfriend: “I am very saddened at the news of Corey’s death and that he was unable to overcome the demons he so deeply struggled with. It is tragic and my heart and well wishes go out to his family. May he finally be in peace.”

• Todd Bridges, The Two Coreys guest star: “Corey Haim was a good friend of mine and he will be missed. Too many people are dying way too young and it’s sad because of the loved ones who are left behind to understand what happened and to feel the loss. I hope he’s in a better place.”

Tragic yes - but talk about blowing it for the 2nd time.

Corey Haim could have really taken advantage of his 2nd chance in the spotlight following 'The Two Coreys' ( a terrible show by the way). How many times do second chances come around in life, especially for 'washed-up' ex-child stars?

Very TISL.

So whose next? Leif Garrett? Lindsay Lohan? Mischa Barton (I loved her on the O.C. - but girlfriend - get a grip on your life!!).
