Default Bass Hall Outtakes Wishes

I think we can all agree that the Bass Hall DVD is a great live doccumentation of the UTS tour. But what about those four songs that were cut? Those four songs are: Red Rover, World Turning, Save Me A Place, and Turn It On (also Tusk is cut on the CD but it's easy enough to turn the DVD into an audio CD).

First of all why were these songs cut? Did they occupy too much space? Were the performances subpar? I'd love to hear/see them all but particularly Red Rover and Turn It On (my favorites from their respective albums).

Perhaps Taku had a say in the cutting of World Turning but I just don't see why, other than space, these songs werent released.

So what does everyone else think? I'd especially like to hear from the people who were at the show but all opinions are welcome.

P.S. LB could always put the videos/tracks out on itunes or something for induvidual download... hear's hoping.

I don't know why artists don't do that more often. I just don't get it. I just put together a playlist of 40 pet shop boys b-sides since their last b-sides collection (Alternative in 1995). Seems to me they could make tons o' money from that.

Oh well. . . I guess Lindsey doesn't need my $3.96.

The only reason I'd say that Turn It On needed to be on there is to represent OOTC. Otherwise, although I wish all songs had been included on the DVD, as extras if nothing else, if somthing had to go, I'm not upset with the selection of the ones that took the hit.

When I saw Bucky live, Turn It On was a great one in the set! The song has great lyrics and a good hook, too.

I think the reason they didn't include Turn it On was because they had just started playing it and it probably didn't come out very well that night. However, I remember being completely devastated when I saw that they didn't include it!!!

I really wanted Red Rover and SMAP. I wouldn't have said no to the others as well. Personally, I think Holiday Road should have been cut. I realise it's one of his best known songs and that's why it wasn't, but I think the performance isn't great.

I have a feeling that there are a couple of reasons they may not have made the DVD. First of all, the concert was edited for a 90minute TV showing before it was released on DVD so that edit would already have been done therefore it was easier to just use it rather than create a second edit with the other songs. Secondly, the DVD has the Not Too Late documentary which (if I remember correctly) is about an hour long. That brings the total time up to about two and a half hours, which is just about the maximum for a DVD.

So basically I guess it was a comprimise between not having to re-edit the concert and to allow the documentary to fit onto the same DVD as the concert.

I felt the same way about Holiday Road. In fact, it was getting to the point where I resented it. But I know there was at least one person at every concert who would hear it and say, "I didn't know Lindsey Buckingham performed that song!" I know it would make one person realize he was more popular than they knew, so I guess it had to make the DVD for that, but I was really starting to get impatient with it and the barking towards the end of the tour, because I know it was taking up space that a better song could have used.

I should make a monster poll with all possible combinations of songs availible to see which songs people think should have been removed/added... alas that would indeed be a monster of a poll.

And frankly I'd rather have the other 4 songs over the doc. The doc is 48:48 and the 4 extra songs are no more than 27 minutes including introductions. The doc could have been shorter and they certainly could have edited the original TV release (thanks Peestie for reminding me about that).

There's just so much potential for that DVD and Red Rover, Turn It On, And Save Me A Place are some of his best songs IMO. I can see why they were left out though. Given the songs that were left on the DVD you can't really take any of them out IMO.

Maybe their waiting to release them on the Blu ray version.
Same goes with Stevie's SoundStage DVD Blu ray (and not
the Sears exclusive).

Ironically I enjoyed the four songs you mentioned the most at the 2 UTS Tour shows I saw. The first show I saw was in late '06 at the Park West in Chicago and I thought Taku's World Turning solo sounded great and was a nice alternative to the last couple years of watching Mick bang on his crotch. The second show was at the HOB in early '07 and I didn't care for the new drummer's (can't remember his name) take on WT or for his style in general.

Walfredo Reyes Jr? I actually thought that Wally was much better than Taku. Taku is very good but I thought Walfredo was even better. He was fantastic on the GOS tour.

Oh no sweat, Wally blew him away. So much more feel and spunk.
