So basically it's the "curse of the Heisman."
Lets try USC with Carlson Palmer, Leinert, or Reggie Bush. USC won two national championships during that time....one must have had a Heisman winner.

No one defined a curse as having to be 86 years long.

Yay, Longhorns! Is that enough for major style points, stupid BCS computers?!? I hope UT jumps Alabama, they had a close call.

I'll say this time and time again, not one single coach/coordinator/player on any level of football (college or NFL) understands clock management.

If Texas goes to the national championship, they are going to have to look a lot better on all sides of the football. I realize that Alabama's defense is not as strong as Nebraska's, but still. The only way I see them winning is if Alabama comes out overconfident.

Anywho, congrats on winning the Big 12! Exactly half of my family had heart attacks this evening.

In the post-game conference, Colt said he thought there were 2 seconds left on the clock - Mac Brown said he called a timeout, but the officials didn't hear him over the crowd noise. Assuming that's true, the officials should have expected, and looked right at him, for a timeout call. Regardless, the review of the clock was correct. The Horns aren't dumb enough to let themselves run out of time.

If anyone was robbed and raped, particularly by the BCS system, it was UT, last year.

Alex Henery, has one heluva leg/foot/aim.

That 57 yard FG against Colorado last year was freakin' awesome.

The Nebraska Defense is incredible...O'Hanlon, Amukamara, Gomes, Crick...

and Ndamukong Suh? Sorry Colt, Teebow, et. al., I want him for the Heisman.

How does a replay guy in the booth even THINK to review the last second of a game?? (unless he's paid off)

Granted the kicker still had to make the field goal, but, there never should've even been the attempt...the game was over.

Just reminded me of the Olympic Gold Medal basketball game in '76 between USA & USSR, they kept adding time back on the clock for the final 3 seconds until the Soviets finally hit the winning shot.

It was fixed. A damned fix. Huskers got screwed out of the Big 12 championship. Sure, they weren't playing for the NATIONAL title, but Texas shouldn't be there EITHER, they lost the game, they KNOW they lost the game, Mack Brown knows he lost the game, Colt McCoy DEFINITELY knows he lost the game.

I know no one here follows Texas Tech's football program, but I have to say that today is a sad, sad day.

It's too long of a story to type out, but a quick Google search will tell you everything.

Craig James is an ass and for some reason he's acting like a little league father, speaking out for his son. Gag.

As whack as Leach is, he is the best thing that's happened to that university this decade.

I'm going to San Antonio for our bowl game on Saturday-- sure to be a rowdy game. Fans are pissed.

au contraire mon frere

There's definitely some ill will between Leach and Texas Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers.

Leach was due an $800,000 bonus on Dec. 31 if he was head coach at Texas Tech....so...they decided to fire him BEFORE the end of the year.

I kinda like "the mad scientist" (Leach) ... and Craig James (?) not so much.

I'd like to see Leach stay in the Big 12.

Kansas has an opening...

P.S. GO BIG RED

Gonna enjoy seeing Suh and the defense....

I hope the offense has some plays .... and poor Henery doesn't have to do all the work...

Brian Rosenthal: For Lincoln Southeast band, it's a job well done

SAN DIEGO — They sat in the spot where Nebraska’s band was supposed to sit, wore red and played the appropriate fight songs at the appropriate time.

Consider it a job very well done by the Marching Knights of Lincoln Southeast High School.

You’ve probably heard by now that last week’s blizzard kept the Cornhusker Marching Band from making a 30-hour bus trip to San Diego. The Southeast band, which had already been planning to perform with other high school bands as part of the Holiday Bowl halftime show, subbed for the varsity.

Yeah, the pace was a tad bit slower, and the volume of 100 instruments isn’t what you’d hear from the volume of 300, but who cares?

Outstanding job, Marching Knights. You sounded great and represented the state well.

The band, led by director R.J. Metteer, received a loud ovation from the Nebraska fans as it was introduced during the pregame show as “representing the University of Nebraska.”

We then heard “March of the Cornhuskers,” followed by “Hail, Varsity!” Then band members filed into the corner of the lower stands, shed their Southeast band uniforms and showed off the red Nebraska T-shirts they’d been wearing underneath.

When Nebraska scored touchdowns — yes, plural! — we heard the full version of “Hail, Varsity!” something I haven’t heard after TDs in several years. (And, yes, they finished before the extra point, with time to spare).

And remember, these young men and women learned the Nebraska songs in only a matter of days.

Wasn't that the 1972 Munich Games? The first ever USA loss.

Wreck 'em Tech!!!

What an exciting game. Apparently we can win our game not only without our coach, but without our quarterback as well.

I just spent 20 minutes perusing a Nebraska message board, particularly these two threads:

http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/in...pic=39719&st=0

http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/in...howtopic=40628

Seems most of them are not on the conspiracy bandwagon, believe that there was indeed one second left on the clock, and they'll be rooting for Texas on Thursday, knowing that if Texas wins, it will be good for the Big 12 conference.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Leach going to Kansas would be interesting. Although it would make the Kansas administration look like hypocrites, considering Mangino is gone for similar circumstances. Mangino's health worries me. Every time I see him, I think of Chris Farley choking and having heart attacks in the "Ditka...sausage...Da Bears" sketches on SNL.
