Default Where did this penguin logo originate?

Does anyone know where this penguin originally came from? I'd been thinking about getting getting it as a tattoo for years and I finally did on Monday. The tattoo is on my left ribcage and hurt like a b!tch. I'll post a pic when I get home if I can find my camera.

I believe the whole penguin thing started with John, it's his favourite animal.

Shackin Up is right....that Penguin is from the Tango in the Night tourbook I think...and maybe from the shirts on that tour.

I have this video, some interview, from the 80s I bought on ebay years ago, and John is asked about the significance of the Penguin logo, and he said it was just his favorite animal. He thought that penguins were very unique and cool, so he got a tattoo and it became like an inside joke with the band.

Thats all I know.

According to Mick's book, John was drunk when he got the tattoo.

I have the classic top hat and crystal ball penguin on my ankle. I'm waiting until it gets touched up to post pics. Keep your eyes peeled in the next month or so.

Just washed it and puy some A&D ointment on it so it may look a little shiny. My roommate thinks it looks like a gang symbol It literally felt like the guy was cutting open my ribcage when he did the tattoo but it was definitely worth it.

Well for me the placement of your tattoo has me scratching my head... but hey, to each his own when it comes to body art! I've got tattoos ALL over me, so... I've yet to do the "rib cage" area though. And the artist did a good job, too.

John liked to go to the London Zoo a lot and take pictures of the penguin's back in the sixties. Let's hope he was sober during those escapades, and not scaring small children!
