I always thought she looked terrible at Bill Clintons inauguration, everybody always talks about her weight in 1994 with street angel, but she looked worse at the clinton thing in my opinion- fast forward to 1997 and the dance - what a difference, I think that is the BIGGEST change.

yeah, she was heavy during SA but her face was beautiful and clear. I agree with you about her looking her WORST at the Clinton Inaguration. Her face was so bloated...really bad.

I went to that Mulholland Tomorrow gig in Universal City in early fall 1985. It was the first I'd seen Stevie live since the Wild Heart tour in October 1983. MTV showed her in 1984 for "Women of Rock," but she looked her old self there. So when I saw her onstage at Universal, I was amazed at the physical transformation. It was like middle age hit her -- WHAM. Big ol' gal in a trenchcoat & puffy from what seems to have been booze.

She was GREAT! Rock a Little had BEGUN!

She changed very much during all those years, sure, but I think that her look change fastest during 1990 (from good to bad-look).
Here are some photos where, I think, she looks great.

you're right David! All her girlish charm was gone by RAL. She was still smokin hot but in far more mature way. I also think the weight gain had a little something to do with it. She was also a lot more covered up during the RAL years. I don't think I've seen one live pic from RAL with her upper arms exposed.

I wouldn't know, as I wasn't around then so obviously hadn't seen her live or anything, but had she really gained that much weight around "Rock A Little"? Obviously, by looking at pictures from "The Wild Heart" era and then fast-forwarding to 1985, she had put on a little bit of weight, but I've never found it to be significant. Not like say, 1988.

This is a really interesting topic. It's really wild seeing the pictures too, from white album to now, chronologically. To me she changed most with Other Side of the Mirror. Rock a Little was different, but when I look at promo photos, and stills from the Talk to Me video, and some live photo from that tour, there are still lots of the shawls and such.

Actually, 1987 to late 90's, it seemed the most style change. Like the black dress she wears to the awards event on mtv and wears it on stage. That seemed to me, the most different look, when I saw the Tango concert video for the first time, thinking about how much of a change it was just not having Lindsey there, but then also looking at the whole look of the video, the whole atmosphere. The outfits were very different from past.

Many of the dresses and the outfits from Other Side of the Mirror were quite a change too. No more leotards and sheer chiffon and shawls, but more designed whole outfits, and the bustier and skirts and "dusters" and such, and big shoulder pads. It got more "designer" than "thrown together." But her "thrown together" was stylish too. I miss it a lot, but it's probably easier for her these days not having to worry if anything's "showing" or any of that. It's still more of designed, planned pieces now, rather than mix and match, anything goes, and it did go. It looked beautiful. But it's probably all in the past now. Luckily she takes out some old, classic shawls still.

You know, I never thought of it this way- good point. I also think they became to look more like costumes and less like a personal style.

I've always kind of thought her late 80s look was almost a caricature of the 'Stevie Nicks style'. I'm not keen on the big shoulder pads and even bigger hair, but I guess we have Joan Collins' influence on that era to blame for that!

I love the thrown together look (but she probably spent a good amount of time putting things together to achieve that effect ). I really like her look nowadays too, she looks classy and chic but there's still a rock edge.

Articulate as always, Lauren. Yeah, the late 80s/early 90s was not a particularly good-looking era for alot of ppl.
