The first 2 films on this list may be important for several reasons in cinema but that doesn't make them good.

Easy Rider
Taxi Driver (possibly the most over-rated film ever)

Pulp Fiction
Raging Bull

I'm sure to think of more soon enough...

I wasn't paying too much attention to the actual topic of the thread. I was thinking popular movies versus critically acclaimed. The only one I can think of is Lawrence of Arabia. I was extremely bored during that movie, and I normally love O'Toole.

"Gone with the Wind." Sorry . . . Can't stand it. It romanticizes womanizing and for me personally, all four hours of it basically

a war just burned down her entire state and impoverished everybody and their dog including her. Sorry, but she

Oh dear god, yes. I liked Forrest Gump, but otherwise - ick. For a while in the '90s, he was seemingly in every other movie that came out, and I just got sick of him.

Robin Williams is another one that I can't stand. I don't think he's funny. At all. Tim Allen, either.

She's even more dis-likable in the book, and dumber. Rhett rips her to shreds through the whole book, but it just goes over her head. The movie didn't really capture that aspect of the book, but despite her behavior you end up somehow rooting for her. How ruthless and passionate she is, which is why she survives while others who are stuck in the "old" ways fail in the New South, like Ashley. Plus I saw this movie when I was pretty young and was mesmerized by Vivien Leigh. I'm also a big fan of Clark Gable. I will say the romanticizing of slavery in both the book and movie is distasteful, but unfortunately a product of the times.

I forgot to say why I chose Gone with the Wind. I saw it for the first time when it was re-released in the movie theaters several years ago (late '90s?). I went with my mother and my mother in law, both of whom were SO excited to see this film in the theater! Omg it was so painful for me- PAINFUL! I get the whole point, and I get it was done in the 1930s but still...awful. I was still relatively new to The South (born and raised NYer), so I may have had some bitterness. I will give Vivien Leigh credit for making me hate her, though!

I agree about both. I also avoid Jim Carrey movies, I just don't think odd facial contortions are amusing.

I have no desire to see any of the Harry Potter movies. Haven't seen "Lord of the Rings" either.

I agree with you and the person you were commenting to. Tim Allen is not at all funny. Neither is Jim Carrey or Steve Martin for that matter.

But the HP books are AMAZING-- and that's coming from a Tolstoy and Fitzgerald fan They get more complex and dark as the series continues and its impossible to deny JK Rowling's ability as a storyteller.

Gone With the Wind is my favorite movie. I have a book on the making of it as well.

I read that The Untouchables was great, and I despised it. Absolutely as gory as any slasher film, with "heroes" who don't even believe in their cause. Junk!
