Default Stevie Superstar Concert Series from 1984

Hi! Does anyone have files of this complete set they'd be willing to share? According to the FM Discogs, it was a combination of live tracks from White Winged Dove Tour and Wild Heart Tour. Would love to have a copy — especially the Wild Heart tracks.

It is my favorite as well. She brings a world weary, grown up point of view to the vocal that offsets the etherealness of the song.

I *think* I have a complete copy of Dreamer. I'll try and upload it sometime today if I can find it.

This is awesome - thanks so much for sharing!

I was hoping there might be a few more tracks from the 83 Oakland show, since "Beauty & The Beast" from that night is EPIC! Those three seem to be the only really excellent quality audio files out there from the Wild Heart Tour, unfortunately. If anyone knows of any others, would LOVE to know about them!

The Westwood One radio show was billed as the 1983 performance in Oakland, so you can imagine the disappointment of those of us who love (& loved) the Wild Heart tour when only three tunes were included in the broadcast.

The only other radio broadcast was the stereo simulcast of the Showtime broadcast of three songs from the US Festival May 30: Stop Dragging, Stand Back, & Outside the Rain. Do you have those?

I do have the US Festival, tracks. Thanks!

And I agree that it's such a bummer (as Stevie would say) that those are the only six good quality tracks available from that tour — and two of them are Leather & Lace and Stop Dragging which don't excite me the way Edge of 17, How Still or If Anyone Falls would.

WH is my favorite Stevie period — she's at her most confident - vocally adventurous, high on coke and success, wild, baroque, passionate and amazing - but just before her all the partying caught up with her and her voice was shot and she stopped singing and sort of croaked and talked her way through her set (a la Rock A Little tour) - not that I don't love that, too. It's a shame that there isn't more decent quality audio material from this period - live and outtakes from the Wild Heart sessions. I keep thinking there MUST be good audio of the complete US Fest show, but haven't found it - and would LOVELOVELOVE to hear more of the WH sessions....

If Stevie were smart - and not so protective of her vaults - she would release tons of the live shows and put them online in FLAC or MP3 files like the Dead, Tori Amos, and others have done.

She undoubtedly filmed some of her 1983 shows. The MTV cameras filmed at least part of the September 25 concert in Tempe. A brief section of "Outside the Rain" was broadcast on MTV as part of a news clip because the show was a medical research benefit with some name co-stars. But nothing more of that night was ever leaked, sadly (although we have an audience audio tape).

As to why the decision to include only three songs from the current tour in the radio broadcast was made, I have no idea. It may have been a case of time: Stevie resang some of the lead vocals for the radio show, & she probably didn't want to resing tons more.

Of the audience recordings, I think Bristol RI (Sept. 9) was one of the clearest. Also pretty good was Chicago Rosemont Horizon (July 18).

I also wondered whether Stevie's vocals were the reason there wasn't a complete WH show radio broadcast...they were often a little rough and heavy on the improv - sort of an acquired taste and not, perhaps, to the liking of the general public. Also, the setlist for the Wild Heart shows was not particularly adventurous. Still, I'm sure every show was taped from the soundboard. The audio recordings could easily be released.

Would you be willing to share either or both of the shows you mention? I don't have them....

You might be right. The tour vocals, especially from late September to the end of the tour in November, weren't really appropriate for radio broadcast. Oakland was October 4, which unfortunately we didn't tape. But we taped two days earlier at the Forum (October 2), & this gives the best idea of what the Westwood One people were contending with. (Sorry about the rotten audio quality -- you have to listen carefully.)

I don't have those shows converted to MP3 or WAV, but somebody around here probably does.

Yeah, it seems like the wheels were pretty much coming off by this point. Coke is great and fun and then, all of the sudden, it isn't anymore. It's almost - but not quite - as "bad" as some of the boots I've heard from the RAL tour (excepting, but even still, Red Rocks, which was supposedly dubbed).

She sounds amazing on the tracks from Oakland, but I guess they could have dubbed vocals on that as well. I like to think that they're live and she knew they were recording for broadcast and tried to keep it together that night.

It's interesting because it seems as though sometime between the recording of Mirage and the Mirage tour her voice really started to deteriorate. On the Mirage Tour and by the time she recorded Wild Heart, was dramatically raspier and lower than it was on Bella Donna 2 years earlier - and even on the Mirage record. What I love is that she also really seemed to have come into her own as a singer at the same time - so while it was ragged and hoarse, she was really singing all out , no holds barred — especially on the WH record. I love it. I might start a thread on this.

Please do! I love discussions of the Stevie's raggy, cokey vocal period. You're right, she let it all hang out. She even said this in an interview during the Klonopin period "I coulda have sang better, but my heart was in it." To me, that was very telling. There's been loads and loads of shows in the post 1986 period where I feel her heart wasn't in it.
