Well, I've already elaborated on the petulant biatch Stevie was in '03-'04 (and still is, for that matter), so what's wrong with me acknowledging and agreeing with a post that accurately summed my thoughts up?

That's trashing? He didn't say they didn't succeed. He implied they could do better. Both on a business and personal level. I've heard a hell of a lot worse about that tour, and it wasn't coming from Lindsey.

but that's what I don't understand about LB's comments about SYW not being successful. Is he including the tour itself or just sales of the CD? Clearly the CD could have sold a lot more than it did but people still went to see them, including myself. He's probably grouping together the sluggish sales of the CD plus the "internal difficulties" on the road under the collective SYW experience. Just my guess...

Exactly. I went...10 times? 12? I forget already but A LOT (and I know people who went MANY more times than that).
I think he may be talking about record sales and then hindsight about the personal stuff. I know I was there during the Camden performance (either the last or next to last show of the tour...again, I forget!) and I think he was very nostalgic and thought things were hunky dorey. But, if he has been reading anything, or having heart-to-hearts with Stevie now, she was an unhappy camper and he was a cad, and all that jazz...so, history might not seem as lovely as it did that warm late summer evening.

that's a good point. He did seem really happy and exuberant during that tour which is why his comments now are somewhat perplexing. But it is very possible that, in the moment, he didn't realize a lot of what was being felt around him. You're probably right that these issues came up later, when it was "safe" to bring them up without disrupting the performances.

I agree with Lindsey, I think SYW has some good tunes on it, but as an album it lacks that spark and magic I usually get from a FM record. I thought it was sloppily put together as well. Not to mention the opening track is very un-inspiring.

Also it was painfully obvious that he put his "B" material on SYW and saved the "A" stuff for his solo albums. You would think he would have saved his epically long and eccentric tunes ("Red Rover," "Murrow," "Come") for the solo albums while bringing the more accessible tracks to the band- "Down on Rodeo," "I am Waiting," "The Right Place to Fade," etc. But no... he almost seems to have intentionally sabotaged SYW. That, or he was trying too hard to push FM into experimental territory. In any case, I think if you cherrypicked the best of UTS and GOS and replaced most of Lindsey's songs on SYW, I think it would have been a much stronger album, if not one of their best ever.

I agree - "What's the World Coming To" is weaker than anything from LB's subsequent solo albums.

I completely agree... although I don't think Fleetwood Mac would have included a Rolling Stones cover ("I Am Waiting") on their album.

"What's The World Coming To" was a weak early incarnation (or "first draft") of what ended up being a trilogy of kiss-off songs to David Kahne & the meanies at WBR. He subsequently finely tuned his message/sound on songs on his solo albums ("Not Too Late"- its not a coincidence that WTWCT and "Not Too Late" were both album starters- and, to a lesser extent, "Underground")

I'm gonna bite my tongue here. But agreeing on LB "almost intentionally sabotaging SYW" is the most outrageous dumb assumption I've ever read. Ignoring the artistic choices that made Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac is simply brainless. This assumption can only be made by someone who hates Tusk too. The man did NOTHING else on Tusk than he did on SYW. I just can't believe some opinions over here.

Oh, and yes: this is my way of biting my tongue. Don't get me started on this, because I'm about to explode.

Jeez, give the woman a break for going through menopause.

I know right. The Stevie bashing is kinda pathetic considering she is a 60 year old woman. Calling her a bitch is by far wayyyyyyy over the top.

There was no way he sabotaged anything.
He was completely involved in SYW-the record and the tour.
I think he has assumptions about what falls in as a more Fleetwood Mac song, as opposed to a Lindsey Buckingham solo effort, but he's not all that wrong about that stuff either. And, if he put some mainstream stuff on there--that's because FM falls under that category lately.

The man was not jaded before the tour. Not at all. I think he was very excited about creating new music with these people. And I don't think he was jaded at the end of the tour. He may be now. He's had a few years of solo work--on his own terms, without anyone playing games with him or giving Mood-O-Meter readings of him to the media, and now he's going back to that. Willingly, but with a different motive this time around.

So, anyway. Now, instead of the music everyone is bitching about here (and I love SYW so I have no complaints), we get rehash of the Hits 2009! Whoo-freaking-hooo.
