As much as I love Fleetwood Mac, and as much as I love Stevie IN Fleetwood Mac, I have to go with her solo career.

Often in Fleetwood Mac, it seemed that her talents were underused... especially when you consider her sublime vocal contributions to songs by the likes of Kenny Loggins, Walter Egan, John Stewart, Tom Snow, and others.
In many of those cases, her presence is what drives the song... or makes it stand out in a way that it wouldn't have without her.

I can think of dozens of Mac songs that should have had the benefit of Stevie's vocals, but she's nowhere to be found in the mix.

But her solo career allowed her to spread her wings, and to truly make good use of her talents. Talents that she has to burn.

It also allowed her to fully explore all of the idiosyncrasies that made her one of the most compelling and unique artists in pop/rock music.

And to imagine all of the songs that may have gone un-recorded, had she never embarked on a solo career.
*shudders*

Of course, there are some who would argue that her solo career has had its share of clunkers... but I still maintain that, given the sheer breadth of material she's released over the past three decades, she has an impressively high success-rate.

So, for me, the choice is easily Stevie solo.

Arrow Solo Or FM

Well, that's a good, but tough question....let's see....

Stevie solo:

Edge Of Seventeen
Outside The Rain
Leather And Lace
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Stand Back
Nightbird
Beauty And The Beast
No Spoken Word
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
Talk To Me
Rooms On Fire
Whole Lotta Trouble
Ooh My Love
Blue Denim
Sorcerer
Planets Of The Universe
Love Is

Multi platinum albums, grammy nominee, chart making singles and albums, working with the likes of Petty, Crow, and Henley.

Stevie FM

Landslide
Rhiannon
Crystal
Dreams
Gold Dust Woman
Silver Springs
Gypsy
Seven Wonders
No Questions Asked
Paper Doll

Multi platinum albums, grammy winner, chart making singles and albums, working with the likes of Buckingham, McVies(s), and Fleetwood.

I think I'll take her both ways. .............

BUT I think with the release of Say You Will I'll get a better feel of how I like her in Fleetwood Mac... NOW, working within the band, but without Christine McVie. TISL already proved to me that Stevie is still a viable solo artist with a lot to offer through her music.

I honestly couldn't vote one way or the other......I'll let you know in a few months!

I would say solo only because I think that it demonstrates her
depth and range of talent. There is so much variety there.

I also feel FM under utilized her. They passed on so MANY great songs..."Smile At You", "Sanctuary", "Mistaken Love",
"The Dealer", "Think About It", the list goes on. She certainly supplied the "Rumours" era lineups most memorable cuts to popular culture.

People will know who Stevie Nicks hundreds of years from now and they will know who Fleetwood Mac is by name. I doubt they will know the other members of the band by name recognition. She is an icon, she is "Gold Dust Woman", she is "Rhiannon",
She is "Gypsy", she is "The White Winged Dove". She has created
a character and image that will forever draw comparisons from future trends.

My thoughts exactly! However, I did become a Stevie and Mac fan after seeing the Silver Springs video from The Dance tour. I must admit I have always been fascinated with the Stevie and Lindsey drama and chemistry since that time. So I don't know . . . . . . . yet!

Tough choice, but I picked with FM. But, thank goodness that she DID embark on a solo career, because we wouldn't have all those wonderful, awesome songs. I just like her stuff with FM a little better. If it were a perfect world, then my choice would be BuckinghamNicks. No FM, no Stevie solo. Just the two of them, because they are just magical together.

Hey Adam, I had a feeling you would start a poll like this.

Well, when it comes down to it, I prefer Solo Stevie. With Stevie's solo work, we get to see many more sides of her. Plus I think she let's loose a bit more on her Solo stuff. You don't really hear her wail too much in her FM songs, except for Gold Dust Woman and Sisters of the Moon maybe. I don't know, too me Stevie seems more reserved in FM.

This post is kind of ambiguous. WHAT about Stevie being in FM or by herself do people like better? Therefore, I won't answer the post, but I'll say my opinions.

I've said forever and again that Stevie's performances are better with Fleetwood Mac. It just seems to be true for me; I don't know why. Maybe it's the influence of the bad on her, maybe it's Lindsey being there, maybe it's because there's just a little competition for the spotlight, etc etc etc. So performance wise, I like seeing Stevie with Fleetwood Mac.

However, I like Stevie solo because she is of course my favorite member of FM. I like her songs best, and this way I get a ton more songs, and many I like even better than her Fleetwood Mac work. I also enjoy seeing Stevie solo performances because I get to hear both FM classics AND her own work.

Well, I voted for in FM because I looked at it from a live performance aspect. To me, she just seems more focused vocally in FM's live performances. Also, I think she is more animated in FM performances, e.g., the way she danced in The Dance tour esp. in Over My head seemed to be lacking in the TISL and Enchanted tours. Also, although I love her solo stuff, her greatest seems to be with LB at the helm (Rhiannon, Dreams, GDW, Gypsy (perfection), 7 wonders, Silver Springs, Twisted, That's Alright). Interestingly, in my opinion, her weaker material also seems to be with LB at the helm (WISYA, Welcome to the Room Sara). So, I go, albeit hesitantly, with FM as opposed to solo, which I love also

Definitely with FM. Whenever I think up lists of my favorite Stevie songs (with or without FM), there's at least 4 or 5 Stevie-FM songs at the top of my list before I even get to the Stevie-solo songs. I really like the chemistry of all of them together, even on her songs. I just wish they could have put out more albums over the years, so there would be more songs!

I feel about 60/40 in favor of Stevie FM. I say this only because my all time favorite Stevie songs came from the Tusk album. I am so partial to that album and I don't think I would choose any of Stevie's AMAZING solo career songs over Angel or Sisters of the Moon, etc. However, on the other hand, songs from the entire Bella Donna album blow me away also. Bella Donna is my 2nd favorite album of all time. I also hold high regards to these songs:

The Wild Heart
Nightbird
Enchanted
Stand Back
Beauty and the Beast
If Anyone Has Ever Written Anything For You
Planets of the Universe
Sorcerer
Love Changes
Love Is
Fall From Grace
etc...

Hard choice but FM it is for some reason...
