Tattoos?

Im currently lookin for ideas, i'm planning to get one soon. It's a choice between a crescent moon, tiny stars or a dragon ( although i've heard that it's bad fortune to have a dragon drawn onto your body) on my ankle. Does anyone here have a tattoo?

Best piece of advice I can give you is, A) put it in a place you won't have to look at it often (if its your first one), like your shoulder blade. That way in case you arent happy with it, you dont have to see it. and secondly, pick a design you KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that you love.

Niiice! I love your tattoos. Too bad that many dont (usually) look well on a girl. Which one was the most painful to do? And is there anything you regret about them?

Tats are really cool, but I'd be careful about what you pick, and where you get it.

They are permenant and even laser removal does not completely remove them from your body.
And if you get one in a noticable place, it could be hard to get jobs, as many companies still forbid tats showing. [Ankle should be fine though]

I'd go with the crecent moon though

I want to get the 'Greatest Hits' flower on my lower back, but I'm still thinking about it.

From what I've heard they are painful, esp in certain places, so as I've stated, and Brandon has, think it over. Don't make a decision you'll regret.

The only thing I regret about some of them is placement...I would put them on other parts of the body.

The other thing I regret is sizing. Tattoos look great when blown up. For example...the flower from the Mac's Greatest Hits album is on my arm...and its the size that it is on the CD cover. It wouldve looked ten times better if it was blown up 2x it's original size. So in this case (as is often) bigger is better...

Many tattoo artists are quick to just say "OK" and assume you've done your research and that you know what you want.

In terms of pain? Well honey, they all hurt. Every single time, they hurt. The most painful place for me, it seemed at the time, were my thighs and calves.

About the pain... i don't wanna know how bad the one on your forearm (i think; the maori one) must've hurt - it looks huge.
i always though this one is subtle & pretty... and the location is nice, too.

Yeah that one was pretty painful. It was in fact, the only tattoo I've gotten that became infected! I had to take antibees for a week to get rid of that mess. My forearm had swollen up like a ball park frank.

I would never get one and you're right about employers. My niece had one arm totaly done from neck to hand...now she hates it. Tough luck girl, both your mother and grandmother advised against it.

Well that's also some good advice to a certain extent. Get tattoos where you can cover them up! Don't get them in a place (Like your neck) where you can't cover it up in some fashion. All my tattoos are able to be hidden...if I've gotta wear longsleeves, I gotta wear longsleeves.

On the other hand, don't go not getting a tattoo because of fear of employment. If that is your only deciding factor, then f*ck them. Having a tattoo is not indicative of the kind of person you are, employee you are, or the quality of work you put forth.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this once before, so pardon me if I'm repeating myself. I have a tattoo on my upper arm of the Hindu symbol of 'Om'. I thought it was cool and deep when I got it in 1998, and perfectly fitting with my whole life with my then partner who was a Hindu from Sri Lanka, and a journey I was taking into Eastern religions. I didn't regret it at all, until I left him in October 2006. Now, I have this relic on my arm and it feels odd especially since I met my great love Humberto in June of this year. Maybe one day, if I have extra money, I'll have it lasered off. I'm not really feeling the mysticism of the 'Om' anymore. I've lost interest in it all, to be honest. Hard feelings perhaps, of how things turned out with my ex. I want to move on. If it was Mickey Mouse or a flower-wrapped tamborine, I'd be perfectly fine with it. But because it's written in my ex's language (Tamil) it is a constant reminder.

Yes. Also another good piece of advice! Never, ever get a tattoo based on a lover/partner. That's a recipe for disaster. *wink*

The only time that names of loved ones are acceptable, I think, is if it's family and/or your children.

It's pictures like this one that make me glad I don't have any. Youch! I saw a cartoon once with two old men in a home that were covered in tatoos, one said something to the other like, "yeah, I got tatoos in the 90's too." I've never understood the whole thing about getting tatoos. People bug me to get them a lot and I refuse.

It actually didnt hurt at all when I was getting it

Just a pinch here and there for some outlining but thats it. I was expecting something MUCH worse..but when he was doing it I was like "Thats it?!" So yea..I love tattoos...lol

What is it a tattoo of? I couldn't quite make it out.

My wife has three tattoos, two of which she wants to get removed. She wanted to get one of our son's name across her shoulder, and I was thinking "yeah, that's sexy, everytime I see you undressed I'll be staring straight at a reminder of the kids." LOL!
