Default storms, a song that no one talks about...

i think storms is a very underrated song...what is it about, i don't think every song is about lindsey or mick, which seems to be the interpretation we give most of her songs

Not gonna lie, there are times when I like this song, and others when I don't. Sometimes I feel like her vocal is a bit puny and weak....Not enough strength to carry it in my opinion.

i agree, i go through modes with this song, where i can't get enough and than i can't stand to listen to it...lyrically, absolutely beautiful, vocally i think a little weak...but definately a hidden gem in the extensive nicks catalogue

Heart I love Storms

I don't know what Storms is about but I used to listen to it at my old apt. with Noah my cat nearby and I'd smoke a cigar and have a little brandy, this was during the wintertime and my thoughts are that its a song about someone left behind but I am not sure it was desirous. I think the parting was caused by something external and still there is a love affair. I don't think its about Lindsay or someone that the public knows, but I am just guessing. Thanks for the post!

I think this song is about Stevie~
with a little Lindsey thrown in- Personally it is one of my favorire songs~

The reason I say it's about Stevie is-
"Never have I been a calm blue sea, I have always been a storm" I think she really is describing herself, the way her personality and emotions rule her. Same thing with Angel another Tusk song , although that song is clearly about Lindsey as much as Siver Spring is-I don't care what she says it is about!
(I think she was at her peak creatively during Tusk)
Sister of the Moon- Sara- Beautiful Child...all about Stevie

Even more recently- when she wrote Fall from Grace..."Why am I always so intense?"
I think some songs are about her, she writes about herself like she is a character, in her songs I think we see the insecure Stephanie.

Remember there is "Stevie Nicks"and then there is Stephanie two different people and I think she questions her own choices more than she lets on-
And she writes about that. \However she is Stevie Nicks, she sounds very confident in interviews about being a Rockstar- Not a mother or living a normal life. She is an actor playing the part of the Fabulous Rockstar

But in her heart she is Stephanie~~still asking herself how she let Lindsey get away...
and why didn't she stay home and have babies and the normal life he wanted. With music as a second priority.

I think she spends many hours thinking those thoughts whie she is staring at walls or stairs or hallways and doors

I personally love Storms. It's one of those songs I listen to when I am feeling a bit down and even though it's a melancholy song, it gives me some hope. It's probably the song of Stevie's that I can best relate to and see myself in. When I listen to it, I feel optimistic knowing that someone else has felt the same way as me once upon a time and gotten through it. I would love to hear her sing this live just once in my life.

i definately agree that this song should be pulled out of the FM catalogue and put in a show, kind of like what they did with Beautiful Child during the say you will tour

I enjoyed reading that. I definitely think we can all assume that Stevie is talking about herself during Storms, especially the blue calm sea part. However, I do not think that she is still hung up over Lindsey and whatnot. I don't think she's living that double life. I mean, I could be wrong and everything, but that's just my opinion.

I agree
I loved the song. I would have chosen this far more instead of Beatuiful Child for the last tour.

About the interpretation I don't know and don't care much, honestly. Whoever it was, I thank him because he inspired to Stevie such a song. I think it's Stevie's masterpieces with Sisters of The Moon, Trouble in Shangri La, Fall from Grace and Illume ( and some other six or seven ).

Lyrically I think it's the most powerful song she's written, and the arrangement is impeccable, even though in the demos there were some very good ideas too.

Lyrically, I think this is one of Stevie's very best songs. Once upon a time, I didn't care for the vocals much. But these days I really like them... sounds like she just finished crying when she sang them. And that song is most certainly about devastating heartbreak... so it totally fits. This truly is one of my favorite Stevie songs ever... wish she'd perform it live before she retires.

My favorite Stevie song..

I tend to love the "demo" version.. with Lindsey's guitar strumming, Mick on drums, and Christine on b3 organ.

It's just a wonderful, beautiful, heartbreaking, somber song!

I saw an interview on youtube.com where Stevie said that she is very proud of the the lyrics for Storms. She said something along the lines of that they are complex and intricatelly woven..great writing. I also heard that this song is about her affair with Mick. An absolutely beautiful song! Did they perform it on the Tusk tour???

i literally just remembered something about storms... in a magazine interview, stevie said the most sad, intimate and personal line she has ever written was from song storms..."every hour of fear that i spent...my body tries to cry...living through each empty night...a deadly call inside..."
