Audio:

Mark Brzezicki: drums
Backing vocals: Annie McCaig, John Payne, Mark Williamson
Produced by Alan Shacklock. Recorded by Will Gosling at RAK Studios, London. Mixed by Mark Wallis and Alan Shacklock at Odyssey Studios, London.

Comments: Adams and I originally wrote "Let Me Down Easy" for Stevie Nicks, but I don't know if she ever heard the song? Regardless, I thought Roger did a superb job.

Lyrics: Well I saw you on the avenue
And as usual you were with someone new
I guess there's nothing left for me to do but turn away

I'm growing tired of all your alibis
There ain't one you can justify
I ain't gonna take it anymore and I'll tell you why

You think it doesn't show I figure let me go
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy
It's time you got it straight you know it's hard to take
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy

We've been going through some changes
And I'm well aware of all the dangers
Sometimes you look at me and it leaves me cold

But now you've gone and blown your covers
I know all about your temporary lovers
I ain't taking it another day and that's for sure

You think it doesn't show I figure let me go
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy
It's time you got it straight you know it's hard to take
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy

Oh when I look at you now
I can't believe you're leaving
All those years and you've got nothing to say
Turn around and walk away

You think it doesn't show I figure let me go
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy
It's time you got it straight you know it's hard to take
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy

You think it doesn't show I figure let me go
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy
It's time you got it straight you know it's hard to take
If you're gonna let me down let me down easy

Reads to me more like they meant they wrote it FOR stevie to sing? But that didn't ever materialize and now Daltrey sings the song and does a good job too in their opinion...

There should be a compilation of songs that were meant for Stevie to sing, but never materialized. So far:

-"Love Will Find Away" (later recorded by Yes)
-"These Dreams" (later recorded by Heart)
-"Let Me Down Easy" (later recorded by Roger Daltrey)
-"Don't Come Around Here No More" (later recorded by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers)
-???...

In a slightly different spin on the topic after Stevie wrote "After The Glitter Fades" she offered it to Dolly Parton. She never heard back one way or another so she ended up just recording it herself.

Dolly could use it right now. Her new single is a cover of Fine Young Cannibals' "Drives Me Crazy." There's even an unofficial dance remix.

Does she change "SHE drives me crazy" to "HE drives me crazy?" I hope not... I HATE it when people change genders in lyrics... for me it comes across as being a tad bit homophobic.

She changed it to "You."
I can send it to you, if you want to hear it.

Thanks for the gesture... but I'll see if it's on Youtube. If it's any good, I'll consider buying it.

I guess "you" is okay... although, given the rumors about her lady-loves, "she" would have been more titillating.

Default speaking of Dolly...

I would have loved to hear Stevie sing "Jolene" back when she could hit the high soprano notes. I always thought it would be cool for Stevie and Dolly to collaborate on a song. Dolly does a pretty cool version (bluegrass, acoustic) of "Stairway to Heaven" -- you have to hear it to believe it.

GoldDustOrphan, you are killing me with laughter over these Stevie bunny images. Hilarious

Thank you for the comedy. You should put together a little booklet or put the images up on youtube or something. Freakin' genius.
