Mirror Thrown Out Window - Injures Two

A mirror apparently tossed from the window of a high-rise University of Colorado dorm early Friday injured two people, one seriously.

CU police said they were called to the Stearns West tower about 2:34 a.m. on a report that two people had been hurt by a mirror that came out of one of the middle- to upper- floor windows of the 13-story Williams Village residence hall

A 20-year-old Boulder man, whose name hasn't been released, was found at the scene bleeding heavily because of multiple head lacerations, said CU police Cmdr. Tim McGraw.

A 19-year-old female CU student, who was talking with him, also suffered minor injuries, McGraw said.

"Given the fact that it was so late at night, they didn't see it coming until the impact," he said. "It appears, in the early stages, that his injuries are pretty severe.

"At the scene, there was a lot of blood loss," McGraw said. "This might have been more substantial than a topical laceration."

When paramedics arrived, they were concerned the man had suffered life-threatening injuries, McGraw said. He was taken to Boulder Community Hospital, where he's undergoing treatment.

McGraw said the mirror appeared to be one of the 1-foot- by-3-foot dressing mirrors attached inside the rooms.

"If someone threw it from one of the middle to upper floors, the velocity it would have gained would have been substantial," he said.

"This was not one of those flimsy kinds of mirrors. They are the industrial type."

The person responsible could face felony assault charges, McGraw said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call CU police detectives Brian Jordan or Ric Johnson at 303-492-8168 or Boulder County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Haha. That's a good way of putting it. Mine goes to Metro State.
