Default BBC wins back rights to show F1 - attention UK Ledgies

This possibly should be in the Chit chat section but anyway the BBC has won back the rights to show the Grand Prix from next season.

There has been much support to bring back the original theme tune - our very own The Chain.

Formula One is back on the BBC!

In a major coup, the Corporation have finally managed to reclaim one of sport's 'crown jewels' after a 12-year absence, signing a five-year deal to begin broadcasting from 2009.

The Beeb insist their coverage will be "innovative, state of the art and uninterrupted," - the latter a blessing given the adverts that often spoiled ITV's fine work. But will the BBC's innovation stretch to a new theme tune because their past coverage was always synonymous with a distinctive piece of music?

Fleetwood Mac guitarist John McVie's glorious guitar solo from 'The Chain' became one of the most recognisable riffs during the 1980s and 1990s.

Being innovative is all very well, but there's also nothing like a blast from the past, so hopefully the BBC will retain just a small segment of tradition when they again take up the F1 reins.

Lots of people in the UK only know The Chain as "the Grand Prix music"

The BBC only used it from John's bass solo until just before the vocals started again.

I've been to quite a few FM concerts in the UK where when some people heard The Chain you could hear the whispers "it's the Grand Prix music"

It is very effective as a theme tune

That's how it is with Tusk. Lots of people only know it as the USC Trojans song.

Also, when FM used to play Albatross during crew set up, before the concerts, I think very few people realized it was an FM song.

Though I was fully familiar w/ the version prior to this usage, a local NPR member station here in Boston (WBUR) uses a piece of The Dance version of Big Love (the instrumental part before he sings the bridge "I wake up..."). Now I associate this section of the song with "you're listening to 90.9 WBUR..." each time I hear it.
