Default FM Tour 1997 Best Buy 2 CD set

I got this used set and there are two songs I am not familiar with:

The Smile I Live For - Definitely Christine singing. Nice song.

John McVie - One More Time with Feeling (4:56) - Who the heck is singing on THAT one?

(BTW -- ChiliD mentioned that Chris can be heard on Steal Your Heart Away...a different version than what appeared on GOS and SYW...and yes, I definitely hear her on the end. Nice bit of trivia.)

Actually I think the version of "Steal Your Heart Away" on SYW is identical to the GOS version, except for the overdubbed Stevie harmonies. Christine is pretty prominently displayed on both.

"The Smile I Live For" is the closer from Christine's 1984 solo album, and I believe it's one of the tracks featuring Lindsey. For some reason I just don't like this song at all. My fave song off that album (and any FM album for that matter) is "Ask Anybody," which always gives me goosebumps.

I think the John McVie song is from John McVie's Gotta Band with Carla Thomas.

So did you get the version with the extra slowed-down version of "Gypsy" on it? It was bizarre... I recall getting the CD in the mail. And then I received a letter stating that disc 1 was defective (due to the slowed down "Gypsy") and that a fixed version would be mailed out. And lo and behold, the fixed version arrived. Even before receiving that letter I knew that "Gypsy" was tracking incorrectly... but I didn't think it was that big a deal, especially for a CD that was essentially free.

This is interesting....

I bought the Set used off of Amazon, and had never played it until driving into work this morning. The first song was Gypsy and I thought...WOW...do these people sound like they are in slow (nursing-home-aged) motion. Stevie sounded like she'd had a sex change to become a male gorilla, and Lindsey was not much better. So THAT'S the explanation.

What did the replacement sound like? Like the Gypsy version from the Dance Tour? (I can't remember -- did they perform Gypsy on the Dance?)

As for your insight into John McVie's submission to the set, I went back and read the paper insert. It says from his 1992 Solo album Gotta Band with Lola Thomas. I thought my CD player was acting up again and had switched CD's on me. (I just got it repaired!)

Thanks for answering my questions.

(On an unrelated note -- WOO HOO! I just hit 800 posts! You have to be reading ChitChat to understand.)

I enjoy Chris and John's interviews most on this CD. I just laugh at the thought of John's daughter doing the loooong version of Rhiannon, as any child would. Go Molly!

Oh well, sounds like someone slipped you the defective version! The replacement is basically the version that was on "The Dance" video, except Stevie doesn't sound so simean-like.

D'oh! Lola Thomas, not Carla Thomas! I stand corrected.

I haven't listened to this CD in eons... but I do recall that the version of "Twisted" on it is actually a little bit longer than any other version; I think it has a slightly extended fade...

Yes, Twisted is on it and sounds different from the version on Stevie's Enchanged 3 CD set. Lindsey takes a verse and sings all by himself. Up to this point, I had only heard Stevie singing the verses.

I am always at the back of the pack....discovering songs that other people have know about for eons....but it's fun to listen to the *new one* and to trade discussions...so thanks Michelej1 and HejiraNYC for talking to me about this.

That sounds similar to the version on the Twister soundtrack. That version, in my opinion, is far superior to the version on Enchanted. It's a great song either way, but Lindsey knows how to make her songs even better, as we know. The lyrics to the song are fitting for the two of them, I've always wanted to see them do this one live, I think it could be almost "Silver Springs" like in nature (and in singing at each other).

I would also love to see it in the FM set. However, I thought the live solo version from 1998 was awful!! That whole instrumental opening and the "You'd rather be wrapped up, you'd be rather be twisted..." intro... . I thought it just stopped the momentum of an otherwise phenomenal show dead in its tracks.

Twisted is a good song. It's a GREAT song when Lindsey's on it. The soundtrack version kills it.

I would love to hear it redone, though. It sounds a bit empty to me compared to the things Lindsey generally produces... I think a little bit of treatment now would make it complete.

ugh, i love the way he says "you faawwwllll to yer knaaayyss...."

I sold my Best Buy FM CD PLUS my Best Buy SN CD a few years ago, & got only about $25 for them both. What a disappointment.
