Of all the loves in Fleetwood Mac, I think the one between Lindsey & Mick was the greatest & deepest. It was a meeting-of-minds, a mutual pledge of troth, & a true friendship, like the friendship in "Brideshead Revisited." It ended, or nearly ended, in self-immolation for Mick (the Sebastian Flyte character) & an emotional turning-away & a hardening followed by a softening for Lindsey (the Charles Ryder character).
I also think there was a strong sense of cross-identification between the two, which may have reached its zenith on the 1978 tour, when both of them shaved off their beards & moustaches. I'm interested in what others think. ![]() Last edited by David; 01-02-2008 at 01:27 PM.. |

I think Mick's love for Peter and John surpasses his love for Lindsey, but I do think it's a very special relationship. In the SYW program, Lindsey said something about the bandmembers not being able to admit their love for each other for a long time, but when it came to Mick, I think it's the one relationship in the band, in which he never really had to suppress his feelings, good, bad or vulnerable.
Many of his songs have certainly been inspired greatly by Mick, whether conceptually or because of Mick's drumming. Michele |

It's very fitting that Mick likes to play songs from Tusk in his solo sets because I think his ideas influenced many of them.

I agree. But it's special anyway. I think Mick loves every member of Fleetwood Mac that gave a special touch and dedication to the band. About Peter and John is greater cause they were the pals at the very beginning, when they were unknown, not rich, and young. But his love to Stevie, Chris or Lindsey is strong, too.

But didn't Mick kinda betray Lindsey in a way by getting it on with his old girlfriend?

It seems like that, but who knows how they felt. In the BTMusic show, Lindsey said something like "It just happened", he didn't show a big anger about it, it was like another line in the tiger skin.. or so I understood.

Yeah, but it's easier to be calm about it years after the event. I definitely think Lindsey took that news hard.

Ahhh yes, who could forget that little ego trip.I mean there must be something there between Mick and Lindsey, otherwise how could he manage to convince Linds time and time again to turn his solo projects into Mac albums, although I suspect Mick's just a great manipulator and charmer. I don't think he's a great friend though, going after a fellow bandmember's ex (and then dumping her for her friend) and then years later dishing the dirt on him. The fact that he acted as a kind of mediator in that group and managed to allow the band to continue for so long benefited him, and John, more than anyone I'd say. Then Lindsey did the BTM concerts immediately thereafter. Probably his brother dying helped mend that rift (if there was one from Mick's book) quicker than it normally would have healed.
Funny how Mick says that from the very beginning Lindsey thought there was something between Mick and Stevie and said so to Mick when they were high early on. Many times during the SYW intros Mick would kiss Lindsey. I don't think he was even kissing Stevie when he introduced her, just Linds. But he never curled up in bed and spooned with him like he did Peter -- that we know of. Michele |

Do you really think he was there for Mick?

I think Mick got him to be there. I think the arrangements were made via Mick.
