am hooked on it lately like a bad habit! haha! downloaded a while back (a year?) and only played it a few times. but love it now! that bridge rocks: "she was not anything that she had...loved because he would have lost...if he had...loved...and then...." and then i have no idea what's going on. i know there's a "whoahhh noooo!" in there! sounds very early in the RAL period...her voice was still kickin! discuss... i LOVE this song chaaaaaaaaaaanel chanel
I know how hard it is to keep promises secret Real secrets, the hardest of all Well, I need to go, but the free spirit has been sold And now she's gone As you leave the shore Woah, remember there is always a chance You may never return Take your time Push down your walls Well, I have run from places where I could not speak And neither could I breathe Well, I wake up in the middle of the night now I need to know Lady traveler Leave the room the way it was Well, the scent I left... Well, they can't stand up in the darkness Ooh, Chanel, Chanel She was herself, she was not his She was not anything that she had loved Because he would have lost if he had loved And never yet found What they both were, no Such a beauty... Woah, love can never be lost All he knew is there was something there Woah, as his hands leaned against her side Ooh, that feeling from the past Well, that is something that she understands Oh, lady traveler Leave the room the way it was When they fall And they can't stand up in the darkness Oh, take your time I remember a man, well, he said to me, He said, "What do you do?" I always thought she was saying, "the Shirelle Sisters, thank you very much."
The Shirelles - Will You Love Me Tommorrow (1960) The Shirelles were the first major female vocal group of the rock era, defining the so-called girl group sound with their soft, sweet harmonies and yearning innocence. Their music was a blend of pop/rock and R&B -- especially doo wop and smooth uptown soul -- that appealed to listeners across the board, before Motown ever became a crossover phenomenon with white audiences. Even if the Shirelles were not technically the first of their kind, their success was unprecedented, paving the way for legions of imitators; their inviting musical blueprint had an enduring influence not just on their immediate followers, but on future generations of female pop singers, who often updated the style with a more modern sensibility. What was more, they provided some of the earliest hits for important Brill Building songwriters like Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, and Van McCoy. |
