I was reading thru this, scrolling down, PRAYING there would be a Ledgie that posted before me giving Cohen his props. LOVE him. Have like maybe 2 things of his, but OMFG do I love Leonard Cohen. And yes, I am a poser, had I not seen the mega blockbuster smash hit starring Christian Slater "Pump Up The Volume" featuring Concrete Blonde's ode to Cohen, I'd never have been any wiser.

Default About Mellencamp

I think Hurts So Good is pretty much crap, & songs like ROCK In The USA, The Authority Song, and Hand To Hold Onto are catchy enough, but that's about all there is to them.

But Mellencamp still deserves HOF.
Rain On The Scarecrow, Crumblin' Down, Jackie Brown, Human Wheels, and even Peaceful World are on a whole other level, combining a great sound with some lyrical depth, and Paper In Fire is one of my very favorite songs. Scarecrow & The Lonesome Jubilee are classics.

Also, from what I've read (in fairness, not being a musician myself), his big-drum sound was pretty influential for a while, and IMO a Hall of Famer should have made a mark. Plus he has a distinct style; his music evokes Americana more than any recent rocker's, IMO, including Springsteen's.

As a side note (and as I've said before), I'd love to hear Stevie do some work with him. If he can harmonize with India Arie, I think his voice with Stevie's would be pretty amazing - scratch meets scratch. Plus he might get her away from all those keyboards & overproduction that have plagued her recent albums, IMO.

Oh, and 20 years ago, when my 1st college roommate & I wanted to drive each other crazy, he'd blast Beastie Boys' Girls (To Do The Dishes) & I'd fight back with Gate And Garden (which is not a favorite of mine, but he absolutely hated it).

Tell that to the folks from Birmingham, England. Christine McVie was the chief hitmaker for a band that has sold close to 100 MILLION albums, and it took six years before they were inducted. It took Black Sabbath ELEVEN years, and it took Traffic TWELVE years (both criminal, IMO, but at least we got to see Jim Capaldi on top of the world just a few months prior to his passing). Really, if the one memorable album in 25 years thing were true, Yes, Genesis, Rush, King Crimson, the Guess Who/Bachman-Turner Overdrive, AC/DC, Grand Funk Railroad, Iggy & The Stooges, Big Star, and Kiss would be in. (And, man, would that be a way better show.) All I'm saying is that I don't think it's an accident that the head of the HOF is also head of Sire records, which just so happens to be Madonna's label.

Ding ding ding ding ding.

And so we know that.. sure, artists consider it an honor to be inducted.. but as fans, we can't put too much weight on the nominations because they do seem to be industry political.

For me, the only merit that the RRHoF has is the museum in Cleveland. I've heard some people complain about it before, but I think it's the illest house on either side of the Mississippi. There are so many awesome relics displayed there; I'm just glad it's open for the public to check out all these cool pieces, and that they're being kept safe. If you haven't been and get the chance, go. Stop and watch any of the little films they have. Whether you agree with the inductee choices or not, it's still a cool experience.

I'm actually pleased with this year's nominations. The Dave Clark Five, The Ventures, Beastie Boys, Bambaata, Cohen - all fabulous choices. As for Madge, sorry, but she's made more of an impact than Stevie Nicks, so I don't see any problem with her being inducted right away. More people recognize "Madonna" than "Stevie," it's a given fact. Does Stevie Nicks have a piercing named after her? Halloween costumes designed and marketed based on her image? No. Both cultural icons, but it's fairly obvious that Madge is more of a household name.

I like some of those songs. Stevie sang Cherry Bomb & Real Life & I think Check It Out with John & his band at the L.A. Sports Arena. She came out & twirled & sang with all her heart. Those are great songs. John had a couple of ladies playing fiddle in his band. It was a fine display of mainstream rock & roll.

When? Are there recordings?

Yeah I agree. Madonna has made a much bigger impact than Stevie Nicks has.

"So I'm not gonna alienate the whole world just to be very famous. You know, a real good example is like, I suppose 15 years ago, if I'd have wanted to really go for it, in the same way that, say, Madonna did, I could have done that. And I could have been much more famous than I am now and much richer. but it never mattered to me that much about winning thousands of awards or having a hundred Number One singles. It has never mattered to me to be a sex symbol."

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know it's BS.

Is Madonna ROCK AND ROLL????
Nope.

Change the name to the Music Hall of Fame, and she would get in.

It's about ROCK MUSIC. Stevie will get in a solo artist someday we hope.

ARen't most of the artists inducted from sub-genres of rock and roll anyway? Stevie isn't really rock and roll either if you're going to refer to the technical terms. It should be a music hall of fame but if it's about rock music as you said then shouldn't it be the rock hall of fame not the rock and roll hall of fame? I don't think they should get too technical with what is rock and roll and what isn't 'cause there'd be even fewere choices then.
