Considering he is looking to make money in this current way, it is likely he would not have. FG only objected to the initial publication because the money was to go to a trust for OJ's kids and, therefore, outside of the grasp of the civil court's jurisdiction to enforce the monetary award. So, I conclude that it is not the story FG objects to, it is the fact that FG is not getting the money made off of it. AND - this is FG's right to do this. I just think it is tacky just as I thought it was tacky for OJ to do it.
Maybe it feels like at least some form of justice to Goldman. OJ "confesses" plus he pays. I don't know, in his position I might do the same thing.

I'm also sorry BW. I read the books about Nicole and she sounded like a fun and special person.

The bottom line is - She had finally gotten out of a bad situation and was killed for doing so and finally standing her ground.

I honestly do not know if I wouldn't either. Certainly, both of the deceaseds' families have incurreced huge expenses and there was comparatively little money actually received from the civil judgement. So, I might do it as well. Plus, I freely admit I like money and this could prove to generate millions for me if I were in their position.

Also, FG seemingly loves the limelight. I truly feel for this man as his daughter was brutally murdered. But and in kindness, I think it is time to let it go because at this point he seems like an absessed man. Can't say I blame him though.

Anyway, these people are BW's friends - so I am letting this go.
I cant believe you're saying that! what makes you think any $$$$ OJ would have made would have found its way to his KIDS? That man is about as narcissistic as they COME!

The Goldmans WON a settlement, and since OJ would never have paid them as he was ORDERED to do, I think its only RIGHT that the Goldmans appropriate whatever royalties would have resulted from this book. I do believe a lot of people sympathise with the Goldmans and I think this would be a PERFECT way to STICK it to OJ. The JERK.

like I said, if I had the $$$, I'd prob buy it for the "key commentary" alone, but beyond that even if there were no "key commentary" I'd buy it just to put $$ in the Goldmans' coffers. $$$ that OJ will NEVER see but should have paid. Its justice in MY eyes.

ok, you're not getting it. the public is NOT paying OJ's fine, what is happening is that OJ is NOT getting the royalties that he hoped to get from publishing this tripe. He is plainly hurting financially, and this is a huge slap in his face IMO if the Goldmans get the $$$ and he doesnt.

I don't believe OJ wrote this book out of guilt AT ALL. I believe he wrote it out of arrogance and because he needed the money. The whole thing is sick and nothing anyone does will bring back the victims.

While he is no longer living the "high" life as before, OJ still receives a $300,000 annual pension from the NFL which can't be touched...and neither can his Florida home. He'll live out the rest of is life fishing and playing golf in Florida.

Your argument is illogical because OJ was never going to get the royalties. Under your scenario, if he did, he would pay tax on them and then the court would immediately seize them to pay off the civil judgement

I remember reading that he had set up a trust for his kids that would accept all rev. from the sale of the book. He would have no access to that money other than to request the trustee spend it for school and the like. I could be wrong though.

In any event, the court correctly ruled that this book was OJ's asset and OJ cannot distrute that asset without the permission of the court, which has a lien on all of his allowable assets.

Agreed on all counts. As for this book, I have no desire to read something that is simply OJ thumbing his nose at everyone in print.

do you have something that proves OJ wouldnt have gotten the royalties?

I dont think anyone begrudges his kids anything, they are innocent. However, I can think of no other reason for him to float this nasty godawful tripe unless he needed the $$$$.

Thank GAWD the Court has a lien on all his allowable assets.

With all due respect, $300,000 a year is not that much money when you are used to having way more. I think OJ probably put money away in cash in some offshore account or some dummy corporation here way before the criminal trial. There are legal ways to do this. By the time the civil judgment was handed down, the money was not part of OJ's assests anymore.

Many people do things like this. I make no comment on it being a moral thing to do mind you. But, it can be done legally.

I remember seeing an interview with him where he said that. It makes sense that he would. Again, if he got one dime from this in his name, the court would seize it

On edit - here is something from wikipedia:

A corporation owned by OJ Simpson's four daughters filed for chapter 7 bankuprtcy relief in the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Florida on April 13, 2007 in the case of In re Lorraine Brooke Associates, Inc., Case No. 07-12641 (Bankr.S.D.Fla. July 2, 2007)(Cristol C.J. Emeritus). Frederic Goldman filed a secured claim in the amount of approximately $38 million dollars based on the judgment against OJ Simpson obtained in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 1997. The corporation owned various intellecutal property related to OJ Simpson. Goldman put into evidence the May 8, 2006 contract between the Debtor and HarperCollins contract concerning the publication of the book titled "If I Did It", a letter by Simpson stating that he wrote the book, the trail of money which was paid by HarperCollins which showed that it ultimately reached Simpson or his benefit, and documents under which Simpson transferred to the Debtor his rights to the book and related intellectual property rights. Goldman previously obtained an assignment order and restraining order dated March 13, 2007 in the aforementioned California State Court. He further obtained an order declaring the Debtor corporation a surrogate of Simpson. Goldman argued to the bankruptcy court that the Debtor was barred from re-litigating the California State Court assignment and surrogate orders. The bankruptcy court gave full faith and credit to the California State Court orders and barred the relitigation of the issues. The court also found that the Debtor was part of a scheme or device to hinder, delay, or defraud creditor Goldman by the use of the corporate veil. The court found the Debtor to be the nominee of Simpson. The court pierced and lifted the corporate veil from the device created for the sole purpose of secreting the possible assets from creditor Goldman. The court further found a lack of separate existence between the Debtor and Simpson and that the Debtor was incorporated without any legitimate business purpose. The court allowed Goldman's claim in the bankruptcy case.
