Vanessa Carlton fans got quite the treat last night when the legendary Stevie Nicks made a surprise performance at Carlton’s Los Angeles Roxy show. Nicks joined Carlton for her brand new track “The One” off her upcoming third album “Heroes and Thieves”.
Nicks has always been the Carlton supporter, taking her out on the road as her opening act in 2005/2006, so it comes as no shock that she would be in the house to wish Carlton well on her impending release. http://vicariousmusic.com/?p=512 |

Another blurb on people.com
• Stevie Nicks, dueting with singer Vanessa Carlton on a song, "The One," from Carlton's forthcoming album Heroes and Thieves, during a showcase at the Roxy in Los Angeles. The former Fleetwood Mac singer was a little tentative about her part, telling the crowd, "I just learned the words to this song this week, so sorry if I mess it up." Still, the duet went off without a hitch, and Nicks then found a seat in a VIP booth where she watched the rest of Carlton's set. http://www.people.com/people/article...047712,00.html |

Vanessa Carlton Showcases New LP, Duets With Stevie NicksJuly 24, 2007 - Roxy Theatre, West Hollywood, CA
Posted by Matt E., Santa Monica, CA, at 12:54 pm EST on Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 “This is my favorite show of all time,” Vanessa Carlton declared Tuesday night. All it took was a piano and a microphone for Vanessa to fill the shoulder-to-shoulder, standing-room-only Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood. With a simple black backdrop, punctuated by tiny twinkling lights, Vanessa transformed the intimate venue into what felt like a summertime outdoor concert under the stars. We were treated to songs off her new album, Heroes & Thieves, plus favorites from the past. The show kicked off with an introduction by Irv Gotti — someone you probably wouldn’t associate with the songstress, but she’s a recent addition to Irv’s Inc. record label. Being on the Inc., she couldn’t go without a hot nickname, and Irv introduced her as “My V.” But the surprise of the night was a duet with the Gold Dust Woman herself, Miss Stevie Nicks. Vanessa had dedicated her new single “Nolita Fairytale” to the former Fleetwood Mac vocalist, and on the next song Stevie herself joined Vanessa onstage, sitting beside her piano to sing along to “The One.” Like lighters held high at a rock show, almost everyone in the crowd was holding a camera or cell phone in the air. Vanessa and Stevie harmonized perfectly — it’s hard to imagine that decades separate their ages. After the song, Stevie bestowed probably the biggest musical compliment of them all: “It’s like a Beatles song. Love her, so great.” As Stevie exited the stage, Vanessa continued the set, playing “The One,” “White Houses,” “Heroes & Thieves” and “Fools Like Me.” Then with a few notes I instantly recognized the next song, “A Thousand Miles.” Now I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you that I developed a little crush on the singer back in college when I first heard this song. There’s something so sweet and innocent about the song that drew me into it. And the lyrics “If I could fall into the sky” seemed so much more fitting last night with the starry background illuminating the stage. It was definitely one of those “aww” moments. Vanessa ended the show with “Home” — her favorite song off of the new album, she said. The sentimental ballad’s driving pianos definitely took my breath away, and she was quick to return for an encore, with “Who’s to Say.” Right before she played it, though, she said, “This song is dedicated to anyone in a relationship not approved by your mother … or George Bush.” Well, Vanessa, I think my mother would approve of our relationship http://yourhereblog.mtv.com/2007/07/...-stevie-nicks/ |

Here's another:
EW.com On the Scene: Vanessa Carlton and special guest at L.A.'s Roxy Jul 26, 2007, 12:29 PM | by Shirley Halperin Though we still get to hear plenty of Vanessa Carlton (pictured) these days — thanks mainly to Zales, the diamond retailer that licensed her 2002 hit "A Thousand Miles" for what seems like eternity — it's been a while since we've seen her in person. But in anticipation of her new album, Heroes and Thieves (out October 9), Carlton came out of hiding, taking the stage at L.A.'s Roxy on Monday night for an intimate performance that showcased some of her new songs and one very special guest. (See who it was, after the jump.) I'm talking about the legendary Stevie Nicks (one of my top 5 interview subjects of all time), who's forged a strong friendship in recent years with young Miss Carlton, her opening act in 2005 and 2006. Carlton brought out her mentor and collaborator with an emotional introduction that went on to explain the meaning behind a gorgeous new song called "The One." It came together, said Carlton, after some lengthy discussions she and Nicks (pictured) had about relationships and the idea of finding that one true love. (It's unclear whether Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins, Carlton's long-time beau, was the inspiration.) Nicks gave the song high praise, likening its pretty, flowing melodies to those of the Beatles. Though she did apologize to the crowd for having to read the words. "This is the first time I've gone on stage with glasses," she snickered before joining in and kicking the tune's harmonies into gear. Sadly, Stevie's was a one-song-only performance, but Carlton's other new tunes, including the forthcoming single "Nolita Fairytale," were also impressive. She's certainly got a stellar team, most of whom were seated at a back booth in the VIP section — Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls) as producer, The Inc.'s Irv Gotti (Ashanti, Ja Rule) as label-head/A&R guy, Universal Music head Doug Morris as a visible supporter (holding hands with Nicks, whom he signed as a solo artist some 20 years ago) — and a string of successful singles (most recently, 2004's "White Houses") to her name. But will Vanessa Carlton be able to reclaim her piano-bench throne on the pop charts? Make your predictions below. |

Those glasses do nothing for her! I think she would totally rock in a pair of Peggy Lee or Elvis-style shades.
![]() Whatever it is that Mama has been doing lately, it's working. I remember seeing some pics of her from the Petty tour last year and thinking "hmmm... rough." But she's looking good, I must admit. |

I'll say! I'm thinking the last time Stevie went to the Optometrist was the last time she renewed her Driver's License. I.E. right before the White Album went #1. lol |
