Ah, the words to my theme song. But really, it doesn't seem bizarre to me. Who likes not being spry and hot? Who likes to work? Who doesn't want to be rich with little effort? You may be right about the rest.

I need to warn my grandparents. He's 75 and she's 72. And literally-they are more active than me No ****, they WEAR.ME.OUT. when I go see them
yah, it's true, like my grandpa could kick our asses at tennis in his mid seventies and stuff. But he has old guy mountain air strength (it's a phenomenon of this century, old tough guys. It's true, there was an article... ). And my grandma cleaned her house like a maniac until way late.

But maybe her (sarah's) lifestyle includes, uh...playing softball and volleyball, and riding her bike, and hiking a lot, and river rock hopping, and jumping rope, and walking really fast, and jumping around, and camping, and generally frolicking. It may also include being hot and not wrinkly while doing these things.

While most old people aren't very athletic, some are, like you say. heck, maybe I'll suddenly like golf when I'm old, and think it is really fun. I have the feeling, judging from food and environmental factors, that our generation won't be as spry as our grandparents are. Some grandparents travel a lot (maybe yours are like that) and that is pretty cool, I might settle for that. Do the whole motor home thing. But, like many here, it is hard to imagine some of these things being fun without physical facility and also being hot.

I also notice some grandparents who get a lot of things done. Which can be considered spry, but I don't like to get a lot of things done now, except for aforementioned activities, so if in my old age I am really good at getting things done that I don't even care about now, that wouldn't be much of a trade. My mom is a really good artist, which you can pretty much always do, no matter how old. I, however, am not, so.... I dunno, maybe I could use my old age to learn and practice all the things I always wanted to be good at. That sounds kind of fun. Guitar, here I come!

I thought of another thing that might be fulfilling when I'm old, since I already like it - animals. Just doing bunches of stuff with animals. That is something old people can do, and I already love that, so maybe I won't mind getting old if I get to take care of animals all the time. Perhaps that could be fulfilling. But to what degree? Or working constantly for environmental things - heck, I'm old, what else do I have to do? The good thing about being older is that you really don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks, and you say whatever you want.
If I'm old, I want to be like Sasja's grandparents - biking trips in Europe. But I'll still be all wrinkly...maybe when you are old you don't care if you are wrinkly. That would be great.
Chronological age is a state of mind - for instance, I am 8 - but you can't really ignore your physicality completely. I mean, I remember vividly the immense sorrow I felt at age 10 or whatever, when I realized I was too heavy to ever do gymnastics again, the bars, effectively. And with every new physical limitation I feel sorrowful. Like, really sorrowful. I definitely place much more value on physical ability than many people, it is my greatest joy - but still.

They are in WAY better shape than I am.
And very active and involved in a million things, and their minds sharp as tacks.

80 truly is the new 60.
That is truely great to hear. I give them some MAAAAJJJOOOOOR props for that!!!! Congrats to them.

It happens. They die, you remember them, you move on and keep living.
It is a natural part of life.

^^I had a friend who lost her cat. she was 9 and her brother was 4.

he went to her and said "abby was old. old things die. one day, you'll be old, and you'll die too"

of course reminds me of my grandmother the other day. we were talking about turning 30. WHich I know isn't that big of a deal, especially since I"m only turning 29 this month anyway, i'm not happy about it and my grandmother said "well, some people don't even live till 30"

thanks mamaw.

For me, is says I will live to be 91. Not too shabby.
Wow. I got 70. Thats not bad. I think that's about when I'd like to kick the bucket. You generally start falling apart in your 60s anyway.

gosh. and here i thought my disclaimer would be enough:

"I'm not saying everyone who is old is a waste of space. But I would feel that way, I'm sure."

My grandparents, save for one, passed long ago. The one that remains is riddled with health problems. My family has a very serious history of cancer.. almost everyone gets it. I'm not exactly looking forward to aging. Really, outside of my immediate family.. mom, dad, and sister.. I don't have very much family - at least that i see and/or interact with - at all.

No one looks forward to aging. And no one wants to lose their looks and their abilities. Also, no one wants any of the other bad things in life to happen, such as losing loved ones, etc. But bad things happen and people learn to deal with it and find meaning and purpose in other ways.

You have absolutely no idea how you will feel when you are old. Why even think about it?

Are you saying that we will become completely different people who think and feel different things when we are old? I kinda doubt it. I think/feel a lot of the same things now that I have always thought.
People don't have to find meaning and purpose if they don't want to. It's not like there isn't enough human life on the planet, it won't be epically tragic if I die early. I mean, a billion of me could die and there would still be plenty of people.
P.S. I'm just arguing with you because you know me, and won't be all huffenpuff about it.

Too quotable to go unquoted.

I completely understand what you're saying, and I am with you 100%. NOT SAYING that I think you should die. But a billion of me could die as well and there would still be too many people.

Earth needs less people and more animals to get back to a healthy state.
