Default iPod For My Car - Recommendations?

has anyone in a major city bought an ipod car adaptor you'd recommend? i have an ipod video - and i live in a big city (toronto) with lots of occupied radio frequencies. i've heard that many of the adaptors on the market don't work well in cities. has anyone found a good one?

thanks..

Well.... if you can get it wired into your stereo, that's the best way to go, in my opinion. But, if you can't, get an iTrip. It burns your battery, but I live in a big city, and if you can find just one frequency that is somewhat dead, it'll work fine.

i have an ipod video and itrip. . .i live in NYC. i think if you live in a big city, you're never going to get the best sound quality no matter what you use, but if you're willing to over look that, it gets the job done. the only thing is that it does sap your battery, as sara1998 mentioned. my friend has one that plugs into her cigarette lighter, but for the life of me i can't remember what the name of it is. if anyone knows, i'd love to find out because i'm kind of tired of using up all my battery power while i'm stuck in traffic!

I have a "Hello Kitty" device that plugs into the lighter - works perfectly!

Yeah, if you're going to use it a lot, get one wired in. All you do is plug it into the headphone jack and it sounds awesome.

I think it's called Roadtrip:

It works extremely well and I live in a fairly large city with tons of stations.

90.5 is the only frequency in Manhattan that works for me. Outside of the city/Long Island it's 89.3 all the way. I pretty much gave up on trying to tune in farther up the dial, even on the supposedly available frequencies- there's still a lot of interference. On the "left" side of the dial you are competing with the weak college radio stations and NPR stations, so any transmitter should be able to overpower most of them.

I was a skeptic initially, but once I figured out how to use it effectively, I have come to love my Belkin Tunecast. Just plug it into the cigarette lighter and it does its own thing- it even utilizes the iPod video screen to display the radio frequency. The big drawback is that sometimes you get static-y/distorted sibilant sounds... I agree that it's best to get a stereo with a line-in mini-jack, but unfortunately my stereo is integrated into the climate controls, etc., so I'm pretty much stuck with this ass stereo.

I live in a city, and I use the iTrip made by Griffin. it is an iPod charger too, plugs into the cig lighter. The only problem I've had with it is that it's really bulky and it's difficult to sometimes angle the iPod so it is not in the way of your gear shift in the floor. If your shifter is in the column, automatic, then you should have no problem. The sound quality is iffy at times, but no worse than any radio station. I honestly don't know what I'd do without mine. I never listen to the radio anymore (besides NPR).

90.5? very cool, thanks for the suggestion! right now i think i'm using 88.9. . .or something close to that (would have to run out to the car to check for sure). depending on where i actually put the ipod, the result is either pretty good or hell in a handbasket. i'll have to try 90.5 the next time i go for a spin.
