Default Stevie's pattern of releasing albums

How I long for the old days when Stevie was (group and solo) her most productive. We can really appreciate that productive span of just nine years - when she produced (and toured behind) four solo albums and contributed to two Fleetwood Mac albums.

Ever since then, production has been increasingly sluggish and redundant in both camps. For example, ever since 1989 every Stevie album has been followed by a compiliation:

The Other Side of The Mirror.....TimeSpace

Street Angel....Enchanted

Trouble In Shrangrila....Crystal Visions

While I like the bonus/rare stuff that we get from these compilations, it's not enough to balance out the fact I purchased the song Edge Of Seventeen about seventeen times!

Unfortunately, and a little embarrassingly, the compilations are starting to outweigh original input. The fact that we are excited about this compilation (aside from the videos/live tracks) seems a little sad and pathetic to me. As if starving little children seeking a meal, we accept to be happy with a few crumbs. It's only been five years since her last solo album!

I see the crystal visions...and more compilations down the road...

STEVIE GOES TO THE MOVIES -- comp of all her movie soundtracks

THE "S" SONGS -- all of Stevie's songs that begin with an S! (double disk for sure)

REMIXES -- this would actually be a good thing to release

ALL LIVE -- every song Stevie ever performed live (Approx 60 or so songs)

others??

Crystal Visions was in the works for two years. It was being talked about ever since the beginning of 2005. IMHO, although i would love a brand new album, we needed a new single disk compilation from her. The average fan has not and will not buy Enchanted. Enchanted is not a best of compilation, it is a career spanning box set which is prominent in rarities, b-sides, unreleased songs, soundtrack songs, as well as the hits. It isn't, and never has been, intended for a mainstream compilation for Stevie's "best" work. It is something for the serious or die-hard fan only...a collector's item if you will. So, Enchanted aside, we hadn't had a best of compilation from Stevie in almost 16 years until Crystal Visions came along. Timespace and Crystal Visions are two completely different compilations in that they represent where Stevie was/is musically at the time, be it the new studio tracks (TS) or the live tracks (CV) and they have a huge gap of time between them, although not many albums.

I'm actually glad to have the DVD to have all the videos clear and in one place ,the commentary was ok and I really enjoy the making of Bella Donna...the CD is pretty much a redundancy..she really needs to do something new after this..I know she can if she wants to.Even the Rhiannon soundtrack for the movie she keeps mentioning would be good.

I remember her talking about how she was going to make the Rhiannon movie back in the late 70's. She also talked about publishing the Goldfish and Ladybug children's book as well. I would love for the movie to actually happen, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Yeah but back then she was actually going to star in it..she's long since given up that notion so we'll see. I' m just hoping for any new material ..of course I'd prefer a whole new solo album but she has to write and record new songs first for that so.....

Yeah, you make a good justification for the new compilation! I guess it's the lack of material in-between that bugs me - both with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie solo.

I know it's unfair to make comparisons...but, say, look at Tom Petty. Starting out in 1978, he put out ten albums before releasing a Greatest Hits in 1993. Then he released another album. Then he released an amazing six cd box set all fans dream of, with tons of rare stuff --b-sides, alt.mixes, unreleased, live etc... Then he released three more albums as well as DVD. Then a double disc compilation, and now new album. (Not to mention several previous concert DVDs and a video comp.)

Given the vast volume of his material, three compilations of his work doesn't seem so redundant or bloated. But for some devoted (FM/SN)fans, seeing them constantly relying on the same limited number of old songs to define their legacy is frustrating. I guess this applies more to Stevie. Lindsey still has a lot of creative fire in him.

I said this elsewhere.... I would love to see a collection of all the demos and bootlegs that we all have, presented in a new way for her: perhaps acoustically, or in some way stripped down, so we can hear them as they should be heard. She said somewhere that if we heard her songs the way she wrote them, we would cry. That's what I want.

Maybe there is a reason why stevie isn't releasing new songs or a new cd. My
personal feeling is that what she said in the say you will documentary is true
in that the only people that buy records now IS the younger crowd and also
with the internet people only want a few songs and not an entire cd. I think
stevie is just ''playing it safe'' with the past few tours. She does the same
set list and when she's on tv it's always landslide and rhiannon. I can clearly
remember for the enchanted tour waddy wanted her to sing bella donna but stevie refused because she said it was to hard to sing.

I love stevie but before i spend $100 to go see what i've seen over and over i think stevie better make some serious set changes before people start calling this the ''auto-pilot'' tour.

And yet... Petty fans STILL have complaints! Your point is well taken, but I think one should never be completely satisified, otherwise what's left to look forward too?

I would love to see the Rhiannon soundtrack too ... all those Rhiannon songs put together would be a really interesting project.

Stevie has so many wonderful songs in the vault, she could pull any of them out and record them for a new album without writing anything brand new.

But yes, starving kids being happy with crumbs is a very apt way to put it! Although this is the first thing Stevie's released since I became a fan in early 04, and I was so excited about this. I think I'd need to take time off school for something brand new!
