Angry How much I HATE...

Dr.Storms!

He was the doctor that was the ER (on staff MD) when I sliced my hand on March 13th. Dr.Storms was the one who put the staples in my hand saying "The staples can come out in 12 days".

Both Deb & I remember CLEARLY hearing the ER RN say "Come back in 12 days as the staples can be removed. It shouldnt take more than 30 seconds to remove the staples". Today is the 12th day.

Well, Debbie brought home a surgical staple remover (Sterilized and still unopened in its package) to 'attempt' to remove the 6 staples, since Deb is a nurse she frequently removes surgical staples from the patients she is assigned to.

I reclined in the recliner horizontally to the ground (Just in case I would pass out), she put the staple remover on the staple closest to the webbing between my index & F.U. finger and I flinched since I DEFINATELY felt that. She asked me if I was ready, So I rested my hand, bit down on my lip and Debbie said "Take a deep breath". She clicked the remover, the staple came out...AND

I went from being horizontal in the recliner to being on my feet instantaneously screaming "F**K!" about 1,000 times!!! Trust me, I swear someone shot my ass with fire at that moment - the pain was instantaneous and shot through my whole body.

I went into the bathroom still screaming "F**K!" and noticing that blood was coming from my hand - Now saying "F**K!" about 10,000 at that time.

---That.was.the.most.PAINFUL.feeling.I.have.ever.felt---

Breaking my tibia immediately above the ankle joint in Feb.2003 was not even that painful, and when I broke it my foot dangled freely.

I called Debbie into the bathroom (She apologized for causing me pain) to show her that blood was coming from the staple holes. Deb said "You shouldnt be bleeding that much". She decided that we'll wait til later this week before the other 5 staples will be removed.

So cleaned the staple area with peroxide & Neo-sporin ("na-na-na-na-Neo....sp-sp-sp-sp-sporin") she put a pressure bandage, so the pain somewhat subsided and I went back to being 'somewhat normal' (Me normal, yeah right!). So I decided to take a quick shower, trying to not use my hand.

When I was finished I decided to change the bandage since it had became wet - Only then I noticed that the area of the wound, where the removed staple was located, was not healed to the point that it should be closed. I could see under the skin a tad. From what Deb could see it appears the tissue underneath the staples has not healed/fully-closed in the 12 day period that Dr.Storms suggested it would.

So now I am sitting here with a big pressure bandage on my hand (Over a smaller butterfly bandage pulling the wound together) trying to not flex my right hand to open the wound up the rest of the way.

^^^^awwww..you have had such a hard time lately

did they take them out too soon?? or did they give you an antibiotic??

I ask because I sliced my finger one time and had sutures. I didn't take my antibiotic like I was supposed to and it hurt like a mutha****a when they removed them. he asked if I had taken it properly, and of course I lied and said "yes"

sorry about your bad day hope it gets better

Debbie doesnt really think she took that one staple too out soon, we waited the 12 days as instructed - but I shouldnt have bled and been in that much pain either.

I have been using only Bacitracin Zine Ointment (The fancier name of "na-na-na-na-Neo...sp-sp-sp-sp-sporin") since the doctor said I didnt need to take any antibiotics for it since it was a clean scalpel-like cut. (I was given a tetanus shot for it though)

There's a very good chance Dr.Storms may have stapled a nerve, because before the staples were added I had flexibility in my hand even with the wide-open deep wound (I was able to move it without any pain even as it bled). After the staples I dont have hardly any flexibility in my hand, I cannot bend the index/F.U. fingers down into a fist and I cant bend the ring/pinky fingers as well as before the staples.

Deb said if we went to the ER they would have removed all the staples and after noticing the wound was not healing as fast as Dr.Storms thought, they would have to add new ones since it is obvious the wound is not closing and healing as it should - to which I said "Uh - No thanks!". We'll leave the remaining 5 in til the end of the week then remove 'em - unless my hand gets worse, then it's off to yet another episode of "Brian sees a ER MD".

My room is a hell of a lot brighter now that I've cleaned the fixture and replaced the bulbs. Which were flourescentish before... And sucked balls completely. Don't buy 'em. They're fire hazards, apparently.
