um, yeah, there is. and apparently your definition of a street team and mine are different.

per Wikipedia (and the definition I am talking about):

A street team is a grass-roots organization that is called upon to advertise and promote an event.

Originally, street teams were used by punk and unsigned bands to help promote their upcoming shows or recordings. Usually unpaid, these teams are often comprised of teenagers who are rewarded with free band merchandise or show access in exchange for a variety of actions:

bringing friends to the shows
convincing friends to buy band merchandise
phoning your local radio station to request their songs be played
putting up posters
posting to band forums or spamming bulletin boards online
maintaining zines or websites dedicated to the band
In some cases, points are assigned to an individual for a particular action, and those points can be exchanged for tickets to shows, or for band merchandise. Some bands even produce special items just for street team members.

Professional street team management firms like M-80 have co-opted the street team concept in recent years. In exchange for promoting new major label music or movie studio dvd releases, team members are eligible to win prizes. Critics of this concept point to large corporations exploiting the unpaid labor of ardent fans.

Other grass-roots organizations are working with the street team idea, and are typically those that appeal to young idealists; PETA, Greenpeace, Young Republicans, etc. [citation needed]

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_team"

- I am speaking solely about a group of fans who do what they can to promote their artist's ventures.

Jaz- street teams are for developing artists. Generally artists who are not signed to major labels. Some major labels do employ outside street team contractors but the only artists they are used on are "college" artists or non-major hip hop artists (ie- there's no need for Jay-Z or 50 Cent to have a street team).

Street team promotion is the LAST thing WBR would ever consider doing for an artist like Stevie. It's pointless- it would be allocating resources to an avenue of promotion that is really unnecessary and misguided for an artist of her caliber. The things that a street team does are totally outside of the kind of marketing you would do for Stevie. Street teams are about influencing tastemakers and starting trends. It ain't happening.

I consider any group of hardcore fans a kind of street team in itself, just due to how much you talk about her, make people listen to her music- and I'm sure that we've all converted many by doing it. I know I have. THAT is the most effective way of doing something yourself to help Stevie. Not standing out on a street corner in a ridiculous outfit creeping people out and trying to give them flyers or CDs they will ignore.

and you just eloquently stated what i was trying to convey. it wouldn't be wise FOR THE LABEL.

the only member of fleetwood mac i'm aware of that has had a legitimate paid "street team" as of late was christine mcvie when her solo album was being released. i was given a postcard with her album release date and some other information on it back at the atlantic city fleetwood mac show a few years ago. did it work? i'm not sure but they certainly were able to isolate a fanbase as she used to be part of fleetwood mac. therefore, it's smart promoting.

And the thing with Christine's street team is that team was not hired to be a specific "Christine McVie Street Team!"- Sanctuary has a program, like all major labels, to hire college kids to do marketing at their schools, and occasionally has them do stuff like that. I would say that 95% of the work those kids do is for college and indie bands. The only time they do something for someone like Christine is when the record label has the materials, and they have a kid in a market who can pass them out. It'd be stupid not to.

As a matter of fact, most major labels have disbanded these programs, including my own company.

apparently my point is lost in translation. I'm not disagreeing with the basis of what you guys are saying. I'm not going to debate the definitions of "street team" -

carry on.

No, I get your point. If people are going to quibble about the title just call it Net Team.

The simple way is just to put a blurb or graphic in your signature on any other message board you visit. And email your fave talk show/what have you and request Stevie as a guest. (I've already emailed Ellen - but we should really start lobbying Oprah...)

Look at this story (sorry about the FOX link.. ): http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249782,00.html

Quote:
For Ross, “I Love You” should have, could have been a big comeback. But at this rate it’s unlikely there will be more promotion. Surprisingly, Ross has not appeared on the one show that could have helped her: "Oprah."

Even though talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey has also professed undying admiration of Ross, on the day of the release of “I Love You,” Winfrey did a music show with Carly Simon, newcomer Corinne Bailey Rae and Mary J. Blige.

Sales for all their albums skyrocketed, and Simon in particular can account for her “Into White” CD being her biggest in 20 years, thanks to the appearance.
Do you think there's any chance contacting Liz Rosenberg would be of use? Maybe we can get some official graphics from her once promotional materials, etc. are finalized, and make our own banners and such.

I am just surprised that Stevie uses the same publicist as Madonna, who is in the mainstream media/news practically every day, yet Stevie can't get arrested. Liz, honey, please pick up the phone and start doing your job!

True. But as soon as she does her job, Stevie changes her mind and negates everything Liz has already accomplished.

An Oprah appearance would be great... But in what context? There would have to be a reason or topic other then the fact she's releasing a cd... Maybe the Soldier Foundation thing she started could do it... That's topical for an Oprah show...

I wish the NICKSFIX & Stevie's promotion team were more in synch and ahead of the curve, For instance, Stevies' performance at the pre-game Superbowl is sure to generate interest & internet hits...to the nickfix...So they should already have official promotional pics and teasers for Crystal Visions! not just a puny mini mention.
A redesign of the NICKSFIX is way overdue.....Stevie or Warners needs to put more $$ into her official website-there should be music streamings of the MSO material, or something else enticing the casual fan to go and buy this new best of.
I know we all mostly agree that the NICKSFIX is pretty lame esp. since it became the official website...Stevie has always had an ambiance which imbues artistic superiority....She should have a web site that captures her high standards & artistic beauty, which she always stamps on her solo releases (street angel being her only slight, I mean that packaging was downright minimalistic. and I 'm not even going to go on about that pedestrian font!/Logo)
On the subject of street teams, the NICKSFIX could have a adobe link for a downloadable official-flyer for "Crystal Visions" that fans can download and print out & distribute till their wild hearts are content .
