Default Whadya get?

Anyone get any good gifts yesterday for Christmas?

First, my best gift this year was that we got to have one last Christmas with my husband's grandma. She has stage 4 lung cancer, and it's spread to her liver & brain. She's done well for over a year now, but I fear the end is near. Her husband died last year, and she's 77 years old so it's not really a shock. But it still hurts. All my grandparents were gone by the time I was 10, so she really has become my grandmother over the past 12 years. The tradition of going to her house every Christmas night with the rest of the family is one of my favorite things to do, and I will miss it. But we were able to make it a wonderful night, for her and for all the kids, so I'm happy. Hard to think that it was probably the last time....

On a lighter note, we got a call from my niece in Bulgaria & were able to chat with her for a while. We rarely call (it's still pretty pricey, we usually letters or email) so this was a nice surprise. Talked to my bro in AZ too.

Material gifts? My mp3 player rocks in theory, but there's something wrong with it. I've emailed customer support, so hopefully they can tell me what to do. I got the cashmere lined leather gloves I asked for, as well as a Boxer desk calendar. A few gift cards, 1 hideous sweater & 1 nice one, and seasons 1 & 2 of The Facts of Life on DVD. That was kind of a gag gift, but I'll probably watch it anyway.

Funniest gifts people I know received:

My husband opened a wooden bottle opener shaped like a penis. The tag said "From Mom." It was actually my sisterinlaw's doing.

Same sisterinlaw bought other sisterinlaw a Whitesnake DVD, a bag of mozzerella sticks and stuffed chicken breasts. So random, and so hilarious.

I bought her Billy Idol Happy Holidays. I thought it was a joke, but it's legit. It's not that bad either.

Just music is all, I'm the easiest person to buy a gift for:

"Chaotica-The Essence of the Underworld w/Bonus disc 'Live in Toulouse EP"-Behemoth (Polish import 3 disc set)
"Demonica"-Behemoth (Limited edition box set-Made in a similar manner to Stevie's "Enchanted" boxed set)
"End of an Era"-Nightwish (Double disc import)
"Wintersun-Special Touring Edition"-Wintersun (Cd/DVD import)

Dontcha just love how I received "Black/Death Metal" (Minus Nightwish which is 'Symphonic Power Metal') discs for Christmas?? Weird, since my Mom died (As I still term it 'medically murdered') I have moved from classic rock/country/metal to extreme/death/black metal

I know my older sister Lesa ordered me the newest Whitesnake double live album "Live-In the Shadow of the Blues" (German Import), which will arrive in a couple of weeks.

Don't know what my older brother Geary bought me, but I know he bought Deb a $60 gift certificate to Hastings (Lesa also bought her a gift card for Barnes & Noble) and an OSU (Okla.St) purse which he found Saturday in Tulsa (As he visits his mother-in-law, the Heat-Miser!)

Debbie received over $100 worth of merchandise from Bath & Body Works from moi (Not to mention a gift card so she can purchase 'Honey Suckle' scented items in Janaury)...So she should be good to go for a few months.

Of course I still have the last gifts my Mom gave me for Christmas (2004) which have sentimental value now: A set of marbles (Since Mom said I lost mine Everyone in my family was/and is a smartass), A Chicago Cubs baseball & a Wrigley Field orb and the ever popular 'gang banger' sweat suit set (Which I wore only once...Sorry, Brian and 'gang banger' clothes NEVER go good together, But Mom sure thought that **** was funny.)

The only thing I always wish for now is that Debbie stays cancer free (Been almost 2 years of being cancer free)

Very cool stuff so far. Yet to get package from my sis and another pal, but I hauled in some cool things. Gift cards to Whole Paycheck and my local bird store, 2 calendars (1 Happy feet 1 Brokeback), 2 old Joan Jett cds, a coupla nifty shirts, Patron, some penguin stuff(plates, ice cube trays, pot holder, towels and one small stuffed baby penguin), a new tool bag and a new cordless drill(!), and coolest of all my best pal printed some old pictures of my three dearly departed birds and put them in matching frames. Quite a nice time.

I got:
  • Family Guy volumes 3 and 4
  • Golden Girls seasons 3 and 4
  • a DVR
  • a crap-ton of Target gift cards
  • socks and undies
  • Grease special edition DVD. (it came with a little t-birds leather jacket).
  • Saturday night live best of Alec Baldwin and Cheri Oteri
  • Funny t-shirts including:
  • new floormats for my car

I got hooked up this christmas. I think I'm going to return the DVR though. I'd never use it, and since it came from Target I'm going to get an ipod with the credit from the return. Pretty slick!

I got a lot of donations and pledges for my charity marathon thing, a Trader Joe's gift card, a Border's gift card (which I will use today to get the Dreamgirls soundtrack), a book I asked for, and a very pretty thing that I haven't figure out what it is. It's a vase or a bowl, I think.

Dats about it.

Edit: Oh, I forgot the best gift. I got an unexpected final check from an inheritance. Which I will use to get to Vegas in March.

My most prized gift this year was spending Christmas morning with BOTH of my girls. I cried my eyes out when Samantha's mom let her stay the night Christmas Eve so that Sam could watch Sara open her gifts from Santa, and be with us. I will never forget our first Christmas together. It was special for all of us.

From Santa (for Sara's benefit, I buy these things for myself) I got a 19 inch flat screen monitor, 800 thread count sheets, Sex in the City season 6 part 2, and a flat iron for my hair.

From Sara I received a beautiful necklace from the schools Santa shop, and a Mickey Mouse waffle iron.

Samantha and her family gave us our puppy! (who is happily sitting in my lap, there's no place else he'd rather be)

And from mom, dad and grandma I received Victoria's Secret gift cards, TGIFriday's gift cards, Best Buy gift cards, a cashmere sweater, a bench to sit on and store shoes in for my laundry room... and that's about it.

This was the best Christmas I've had in 4 years....

You'll get there, Brian. I still miss my husband terribly. I still have my moments, especially around the holidays. I'm just thankful for my girls...

It has the Schwetty balls skit but no Schwetty wieners...
However, Alec as Charles Nelson Reilly on Inside the Actor's Studio is pee your pants funny.

losing my Mom in 2005, the disaster known as Christmas 1977 and nearly losing Debbie at this time of the year in 2003 (Kinda funny in a way, But my Mom thought she food poisoned Deb during Christmas dinner in 2003, instead it was a major/deadly septis infection that was coursing through her blood stream) makes me not the most joyful person during the holidays...But with the upcoming legal issues over my Mom's death, I may finally have peace
