ok, to answer a few things:
Jason, I did admit that in this area I deviated from my usual Liberal leanings.
I made that clear with my very first post Also, with regard to your comment about the race wars in THIS country, I agree with you.

Paula, since you sound sincere (and I have never ever "cried baiting" before on this board, you are the first, and If I am wrong I take it back) here is what happened:

When I was in 7th grade I was a bookwormish skinny kid with glasses. kept to myself. Apparently a group of Black girls saw in me a chance to feel superior because for several months (every DAY) they would hound me and push/hit me and harrass me and say things like "did you just call me a nigger?" when I was saying nothing at ALL! There's more, but I think you get the point. I wasnt seriously hurt but I was terrorised for months like this and a typical day would have about 3 hours worth of misery in it. This one girl in particular had gym with me and made me completely miserable the entire PE period. Finally another black girl, Carolyn (I still remember her name) told this group of girls to leave me alone and if they didnt, they'd have to answer to her!! Well you can imagine my surprise....and I was like a grateful puppy dog of course which embarrassed her and she pretty much told me to knock it off!! The thing I found amazing was that even though I was pretty much silent throughout this whole ordeal, (or I would deny things) was that these girls would accuse me of saying stuff I obviously wasnt saying and then push/hit me for it. There were 5 or 6 of them at all times and you could see they got great glee out of it. Yes it was a schoolyard bully type situation but they tried to play the race card and take it to another level IMO.

Regarding your other comment: I cant believe anyone would actually think that I think ALL Muslims are terrorists because I never said that anywhere and I never implied it either. The statements I DID make (about the Arabs/Muslims never accepting Israel, and an impending apocalypse between Muslim/Christian or East/West if you will) have either been corroborated by other sources (wikipedia for one) or other people (such as yourself) have agreed with me. At this point, what more is there to say?

Actually, you did when you said no one would like your answer regarding whether they (all of them) should be in concentration camps and one day you hoped not to have to say "I told you so" if they were not. Granted you later somewhat came off of this (which apparently few believed) - but you still said it, thus negating your bolded statement above.

So, here is an example of how everyday Muslims can help make a difference:
(kinda reminds me of the Dem takeover of Congress):

Quote:
Ahmadinejad opponents win elections

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer 23 minutes ago

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's opponents won local council elections in Iran, final results showed Thursday, in an embarrassing blow to the hard-line leader that could force him to change his staunch anti-Western stance and focus more on domestic issues.

Last week's elections for local councils in towns and cities across Iran were widely seen as a referendum on Ahmadinejad's 18 months in office.

Since taking power, Ahmadinejad has escalated Iran's confrontation with the United States and the West, drawing the threat of U.N. sanctions for pushing ahead with uranium enrichment in Iran's nuclear program. He has also provoked international outrage for his comments against Israel and casting doubt on the Nazi Holocaust.

His hard-line stances are believed to have divided the conservatives who voted him into power last year, with some feeling Ahmadinejad has spent too much time confronting the West and has failed to deal with Iran's struggling economy.

Moderate conservatives opposed to Ahmadinejad won a majority of the seats in Friday's elections followed by reformists who were suppressed by hard-liners in 2004, according to final results announced by the Interior Ministry.

The final results also represented a partial comeback for reformists, who were crushed over the past five years by hard-liners who drove them out of the local councils, parliament and the presidency. The reformists favor closer ties with the West and further loosening of social and political restrictions under the Islamic government.

In Tehran, the capital, candidates supporting Mayor Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf, a moderate conservative, won seven of the 15 council seats. Reformists won four, while Ahmadinejad's allies won three. The last seat went to wrestling champion Ali Reza Dabir, who won a gold medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and is considered an independent.

Final results for the rest of the country also showed a heavy defeat for Ahmadinejad supporters, and analysts said his allies won less than 20 percent of local council seats nationwide. None of his candidates won seats on the councils in the cities of Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, Sari, Zanjan, Rasht, Ilam, Sanandaj and Kerman. Many councils in other cities were divided along similar proportions as Tehran's.

Last week's election for local councils, which handle community matters in cities and towns, does not directly effect Ahmadinejad's administration and is not expected to bring immediate policy changes.

But it was the first time the public has weighed in on Ahmadinejad's stormy presidency since he took office in June 2005. The results are expected to pressure him to change his populist anti-Western tone and focus more on Iran's high unemployment and economic problems at home.

Leading reformist Saeed Shariati said the results of the election was a "big no" to Ahmadinejad and his allies.

"People's vote means they don't support Ahmadinejad's policies and want change,
" Shariati, a leader of the Islamic Iran Participation Front, Iran's largest reformist party told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Shariati accused Ahmadinejad of harming Iran's interests with his hard line.

"We consider this government's policy to be against Iran's national interests and security. It is simply acting against Iran's interests," he said. His party seeks democratic changes within Iran's ruling Islamic establishment and supports relations with the United States.

Similar anti-Ahmadinejad sentiment was visible in the final results of a parallel election held to select members of the Assembly of Experts, a conservative body of 86 senior clerics that monitors Iran's supreme leader and chooses his successor.

A big boost for moderates within the ruling Islamic establishment was visible in the big number of votes for former President Hashemi Rafsanjani, who lost to Ahmadinejad in the 2005 presidential election runoff.

Rafsanjani, who supports dialogue with the United States, received the most votes of any Tehran candidate to win re-election to the assembly. Also re-elected was Hasan Rowhani, Iran's former top nuclear negotiator whom Ahmadinejad has repeatedly accused of making too many concessions to the Europeans.

Iran started having council elections after a reform introduced in 1999 by then President Mohammed Khatami.

More than 233,000 candidates ran for more than 113,000 council seats in cities, towns and villages across the vast nation on Friday. All municipal council candidates, including some 5,000 women, were vetted by parliamentary committees dominated by hard-liners. The committees disqualified about 10,000 nominees, reports said.

Ultimately, what I hope to see in this world is PEACE.

I cant help how you TOOK it, I only know how I MEANT it. And I MEANT that my answer would not be my usual Liberal "live and let live" kind of attitude.

I spent many pages making that clear. (to wit: I do NOT condone concentration camps, I specifically said I hated the terrorists, and the "I hope I never have to say "I told you so" referred to my belief that we were heading toward a Muslim/Christian apocalypse) THAT is what I meant. That is what I meant. THAT. IS. WHAT. I. MEANT.

Wasn't just me

Interestingly, you seemingly assign no fault to Israel, though they certainly have misbehaved, to say the least.

no, wrong again.

you commented that it would be nice if Israel didnt engage in terrorist acts either and I said "yes, of course"
I can see that it takes two to tango. But I also consider Israel to be defending itself by and large whereas the PLO, Hamas etc are being funded by Arab fundies who are actively encouraging attacks on Israel. Israel DOES have a right to defend itself.

and maybe it wasnt just you, but if you folks would accept my clarifications instead of accusing me of backpedaling you'd see I was trying to correct your misinterpretations. Sheesh!

You really think the other parties are not defending themselves? After all, their land was taken and then more land was taken. Wouldn't you be a little pissed off too?

They were not "misinterpretations." They were what you said outright. Thus, you may have clarified, but to say I or anyone else misinterpreted is just wrong.

As to the rest of the conversation, I wonder about those alleged misinterpretations myself. I didnt think there were any. Sorry to interfere agian, but I think that everybody's point is made very clearly.

a) you DID misinterpret and I tried to correct your misinterpretation. I cant see how "that is the one area where I deviate from my usual Liberal leanings and Im not the person you should ask because you wouldnt like my answer" becomes "I hate ALL Muslims" or that I think Muslims need to be locked up in concentration camps. I never said that anywhere. ANYWHERE.
so, YES you did misinterpret. When I said "I hope I never have to say "I told you so" I was referring to my visions of an impending apocalypse between Christian/Muslim. Ive said that over and over and over yet you seem to want to cling to YOUR interpretation of my original statement in spite of ALL MY EFFORTS to show you different. Only I know what I meant, and Im not shy about speaking my mind, if I meant something a certain way, I'd certainly SAY so.

b) Israel was created with the help of the British Govt and Sanctioned by the UN and various Western Countries. They gained more land in the 6 days war when they went on the offensive against Syria and Egypt who were planning to attack them. Prior to the Arab occupation of Jerusalem and Palestine, that was Hebrew land, their historic holy city. Arabs capured it and occupied it for about 1300 years, thus they think it belongs to them. One could see their point. I happen to believe the Hebrews/Jews have the prior claim, and in my opinion, the creation of Israel was a step toward rectifying that situation.

I don't think that history is so easy to explain (as in your above post). It is never easy to decide "who has a prior claim". You may express your opinion in a conversation and that's about it. Your opinion and its expression (not only yours, I mean everybody's) have very little to do with the truth or (what's even worse) with "right" and "wrong"Not to mention that there is no actual 'truth" when it comes to history and politics, but whatever.
So, to your previous post, someone could argue (not me, but whatev.) that who cares who lived there 2000 years ago, the Jews went there after WWII and kicked the Arabs out. At least that's what I hear from people who dislike the Jews. So there you go.

yes. agreed. Im not saying the current Palestinians dont have a valid point, however, the history of the Holy Land is pretty well documented for at least the past 2000 years, and even if History is written by the victor (as they say!) it is the History that has been generally accepted as truth. Im not making anything up. If there were any claims to that land other than Jew or Arab, I at least am not aware of them

But I think, given that there is no place for the Jews to call their own in the whole wide world, that this ancestral homeland of theirs is the most likely place, and since they have said they will accept (and live in peace beside) a Palestinian state, that the real blame for continued fighting lies with Israel's enemies, be they Arab, Muslim, or whoever. Of course, this is (as you say) my opinion.
