Question The Tipping Thread...

Ok...so it seems that outside of restaurants and haircuts I am tip stupid.

Like I don't know exactly WHO to tip. Do you tip dog groomers? I took my dog to get groomed last weekend, didn't know if you're supposed to tip them -if so how much?

Massages - do you tip your masseuse?

It seems like you're supposed to tip EVERYONE nowadays..I've lost track.

I have no idea about dog groomers, as I've never been to one. And I don't think you need to tip a masseuse, as they are usually self-employed. Oh wait, my husband just told me I am wrong. He used to work in an upscale salon that had masseuses and apparently you ARE supposed to tip them.

I know. I totally agree. I tip pretty good (for good service) but I don't tip everyone. I tip when I get an eyebrow wax (of course!!! ) and a haircut. But other than that (and food of course) I really don't oh, valet. (because I use it so often ) but when I do, they get tipped...

*thinking*....hmmmmm..

on edit- bartenders. You tip them well, they will hook you up!!

Having worked in customer service for most of my life, I tend to tip everyone. And I tip REALLY well when I get good service. However, I probably need to chill out on it. I'm going to pay attention to the rest of this thread so I can see who I can cut out of my tipping list.

Oh Good God. So in addition to paying out the ass for a massage I have to tip them

So how much is typical for a massage? do restaurant typing standards apply?

I pretty much tip everyone 20%. Waiters, cafe workers, guy who cuts my hair, woman who comes and takes care of my cats when I travel. I don't think it matters if they are self-employed. I tip good bartenders very well also; it pays off. Plus they work hard.

if you want good service, tip well! anyone who has ever worked in the restaurant industry will tell you that good tippers are never forgotten, and always get great service.

Wink

20% was the norm for me before I came to NZ. 25% if the waiter/waitress was exceptional (i.e. friendly/nice)

Well I'd never think of NOT tipping in a restaurant - but the dog groomer was what I was most curious about. The link Sugar posted said one should tip the dog groomer. Great....I'm an asshole

I know! Listen, quit siding with Jeff. lol

I have been a bartender and waitress my whole life, so believe me, I am the queen of tipping. But there has to be some people I don't have to tip?

My thinking is...why should we even tip, unless they are making $2.50 (approx) an hour...(waitresses ect. ) I mean...I'm sure a massage therapist is making some jack. So why tip them? No one tips me when I make them a fabulous temporary tooth. I've never tipped the person who scanned my groceries at the store. How many times have you tipped the wal-mart greeter or your gynocologist/proctologist??

just asking.
