^^^

I beg to differ - Trouble, Go Insane, and Holiday Road were all very commercial in design

I don't think pointing out 3 songs from 4 albums is convincing enough.

"Slow Dancing" was also commercial, and, really, the entire 'Out Of The Cradle' album was "commercial." Certainly not geared towards Top 40 listeners, but it definitely fits comfortably with the material played on Adult Contemporary stations.

Many records have a lead single and maybe a back up to sell it. The rest is just filler. In this instance, the filler is in the form of great art, etc.

I was talking about the whole albums. OOTC was maybe his most radiofriendly record, but apart from Countdown, there wasn't a real commercial track on it. No big love/GYOW-type of commercial. Normally he f*cks the popsongs up with quirky production. He aims for that and that's OK. But you can always hear he HAS abilities to make it commercially interesting. He just consequently chooses not to.

I think that kind of ability works for him well only if he as a filter to use, and his filters are Fleetwood Mac or Stevie. Through them he seems able (sometimes) to cope in a mellower way with his tendency to overwrite, overplay, overthink (and again these aren't negative aspects for me, but just components of his style).

I heard Go Insane and Trouble a lot on Adult contemporary stations when I lived in Cleveland. WMMS would play Go insane on their very adult oriented morning show, Jeff and Flash... it got spun with Got A Hold On Me, Tina Turner's Private Dancer....Foriegner... etc etc....

Stew love the RS sig... haha
