Smile Rank: "Under the Skin" songs

I know it's still a little early, but you can always change it later. As of right now, here's how I have them in terms of fave to least fave, though I love the whole album through and through.

1. Castaway Dreams (Didn't care for it at first, now I LOVE it)
2. It Was You
3. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
4. Show You How
5. Shut Us Down
6. Under the Skin
7. To Try For the Sun
8. I Am Waiting
9. Down on Rodeo
10. Flying Down Juniper
11. Not Too Late (It's wonderful, but a little too talky/harsh-like. I still love it tough, in moderation)

i love the whole album
haven't digested it enough yet to rank it
but i think
Cast Away Dreams
and Flying Down Juniper are the weakest.
Only because I find them too conventional stacked up against the rest.

Down On Rodeo
It Was You
To Try For The Sun
Show You How
Shut Us Down
Flying Down Juniper
Not Too Late
I Am Waiting
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
Under The Skin
Cast Away Dreams

Of course there's the school of thought that the album should be taken as a whole, instead of naming just the highlights. And I have to admit, most of the time I play it in its entirety. It sounds like the tracks really do belong together.

I love the whole album as well, but the 2 standouts for me are Under The Skin and Flying Down Juniper.

I just take it as one complete body of work, I don't really take it as individual songs.

So do I. Since first listen I just can't look at it as a collection of songs that you can rank. They all stand in contact with eachother.

this is why all these "favorite album/song/whatever" threads have been irritating me. it seems like an exercise in futility. i love this album as a whole.

Alot of people don't like albums as a whole, and often don't like artists: they just like songs, which annoys the crap out of me

i hate that! i don't understand when people just download songs or whatever, and never whole albums. and never listen to albums front to back. maybe i'm a snob or something ...

Lightbulb Hmm...

It is always very difficult to rank any LB songs for me, but here ya go. I love each and every song.

1. Under the Skin (this is #1 no matter what, I think)
2. SGCYM
3. I Am Waiting
4. Down on Rodeo
5. Castaway Dreams
6. Flying Down Juniper
7. Shut Us Down
8. To Try for the Sun
9. Not Too Late
10. It Was You
11. Show You How (gets a bit too repetitive towards the end)

Agreed. It's really not an album that can be taken apart with each song studied individually, it works much better when studied as a whole. It's one big long story. That said, I have to admit that Under the Skin is my favourite chapter, and It Was You it my least favourite one. It should have been an epilogue instead of being stuck somewhere in the middle, and even then it wouldn't really have fit. It's too trite and poppy.

I liked it better live though, when taken out of the main story and performed as it should be, on its own.

Not Too Late-Love the lyrics and music is fabulous
It Was You-Such a fun heartfelt song
To Try For The Sun-LOVE, Love the lyrics.
Under The Skin-real mellow and kind of sexy
Down On Rodeo-just love it
Shut Us Down-love it
I Am Waiting-great cover
Cast Away Dreams-another mellow kind of sad song which I like
Flying Down Juniper-I really like it, but just not quite up to par with the others
SGCYM-ONly because I've listened to it so much

BTW, did the guy that wrote Try For The Sun write it for SnL?? The lyrics are dead on!!!
