Online dancing star struts into boardrooms

By Sara Ledwith Thu Oct 5, 5:57 PM ET

LONDON, Oct 5 (Reuters Life!) - Anyone who has walked like an Egyptian or moon-walked at the office party, can relate to Judson Laipply, the dancing star of online video site YouTube whose online success has made him a hit in company boardrooms.

His six-minute video, 'Evolution of Dance', catalogues the squirm-worthy moves made so enthusiastically by so many over five decades of partying and it has become the most viewed of all time on www.youtube.com, seen more than 33.5 million times

"Addictive. Must watch it at LEAST once a week to get my fix," says Joe Kondrosky in the guest book at Laipply's own website, www.evolutionofdance.com. "Being in the thirties crowd you touch all of the genres in an amazing way. Clearly the greatest video of our lifetime."

The success of the dance medley with 32 songs has given Laipply online fame but has also helped boost the career of the 30-year-old American who describes himself as an inspirational comedian. He is in strong demand -- for corporate shows.

Laipply has been dubbed "YouTube's signature breakthrough artist" by the Los Angeles Times, and his video has shown the web's potential to rival popular TV shows featuring viewers' families and pets in silly clips.

"Most people love the Brady Bunch Keep On Keeping On, the Apache, "Jump On It", MC Hammer's Hammer Dance. Michael Jackson is always a good crowd pleaser," Laipply said by email.

Now, instead of just being watched by office workers surfing the net while pretending to check spreadsheets, Laipply is making his way through receptions -- at the management's invitation.

"I have many more (corporate shows) booked for the future," said Laipply, from Cleveland, Ohio. "Companies like Verizon, American Airlines, Herman Miller, Hilton, and much more."

Laipply developed his routine as a comic finale to his talk on the theme of 'Life is Change', which address management issues like choices, sales and marketing, conflict management, workplace relationships, team building and goal setting.

The whole reason he put up the video was in response to people asking to see the routine again so they could copy it.

From his nonchalant twist - nose in the air as if agreeing that a dance is in order to humour the crowd - to hard-rock head-banging and the frisky pelvic mime of 'U can't touch this', he plays out the gradual collapse of inhibitions that always turns a good party into a great one.

I *LOVE* this video. It is one of the few that really does make me laugh out loud. When he breaks into Michael Jackson-omg, hilarious. The funny thing is, he does all the moves really well. Very funny. Thanks for posting that again.
