Thumbs up My Under The Skin Review

So Today I got my copy of the CD from Indigo and I must say I enjoyed it. Did I love it no, but I think it is a strong body of work.

It has 14 years since Lindsey Buckingham released a solo CD and after one aborted CD and two Fleetwood Mac reunions the guitar wizard is back. This time Mr Buckingham forgoes almost all bass and drums in favour of a stripped down acoustic production which features some real treasures. The album opens with Not Too Late a song that is obviously about his failed attempts at a solo career with lines like "Reading a paper saw a review" "Said I was a visionary but nobody new". The first single "Show you how" is a great song about a man who is being told told to "Slow down baby". "Slow down now" One of the best songs on the Cd is a beautiful song called "Castaway Dreams" written after Lindsey had a fight with his wife Kristen during the FM tour of three years ago. It has some very sweet lyrics and boasts some fine understated vocals.

Some of the songs don't go over as well as evidenced in "Shut Us Down" which is a great song but since it's release last year on the "Elizabethtown" soundtrack he has tinkered with the song including dropping the instrumental in the middle which worked so well. Now the song feels not quite complete. His cover of the Rolling Stones "I am Waiting" while still worth a listen lacks the punch of the earlier versions that circulated on the net for some time. The second single is rerportedly going to be "Down on Rodeo" which is a good choice for a song as it has some potential to get radio airplay one hopes.

Overall the music is definately worth a listen if you are a fan of Buckingham's or not I wouldn't call it his best work as I still find his last album 1992's "Out of the Cradle" to be a brillant pop rock album. However the man has got talent and this Cd is a solid body of work. **** out of five
